CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share You put a hook on that 1" minnow and I bet you will catch doubles. Maybe triples. Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share Thanks guys! Im not getting a good pop cause it wants to dive... Ill angle the mouth up on the next one, should fix it... But u get the idea! The Hungry Popper: https://youtu.be/YZEwKMU29LE Bob, that minnow is finicky!.. Even a snap swivel throws the action off, not sure what a hook would do to it?? Quote Link to comment
CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share P.S. That color on the little teaser is nearly a perfect bone. I like the classic spotted green chaser, but I would think baby bass. Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share Might be the lighting, but the minnow is actually yellow.... Baby bass is a good idea! Quote Link to comment
CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share Must be the monitor in the house. Here in the shop it does look more yellow. Quote Link to comment
CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share I just watched the video. I think it will p op better when you have an actual cast length of line out. Its pretty hard to get that short sharp snap I like in the space you have there. You need to go fishing with it before you make a huge change I think. Also, sometimes where the line is tied on the eyelet can affect the action. On the tiny poppers I throw a lot I've found that sliding the knot down to the bottom of the eyelet gives a splish and spray. Sliding the knot to the top gives a splunk and dunk. Quite often I have found one or the other works better for the fish. Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Share Thats a good point Bob!... Which means getting out of my new shop and onto the lake! Quote Link to comment
jonister 168 Posted June 29, 2015 Report Share You could try wire, or braid, i dont really know =) . I have seen a design sortof like this in a bass pro or something but i couldnt find it for the life of me. It was a sliding crank with a sinking spook behind it, for redfish i think. it looked like you fished it like a crank/jerkbait, but stopped and the spook sank below to catch potential followers. it might be fun to try a design like this. I dont know =D . I really like this one! its a cool innovative design that looks like the bass would just hammer. Great job! Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 29, 2015 Report Share Thanks Jonister!... Ive never seen one either, ive seen plenty of tandem baits, but most of them are matching sizes.. I wanted to create a feeding/competition action... I came up with the idea one day when i bought each of my dogs a big tasty bone.... None of them wanted their bone, but instead kept trying to steal the other bones... It ended in chaos, 4 dogs fighting and 4 tasty bones laying on the floor..... So i threw the bones away... Dumb dogs! Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 29, 2015 Report Share Oh yea, my point?? Sometimes an easy meal isnt tempting enough, weve all seen days like that on the water.... Hopefully the minnow will represent the "unwanted bone" Quote Link to comment
CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted June 29, 2015 Report Share I didn't think I would go with braid. I like braid for lots of things. Buzzbaits, buzzfrogs, FLIPPING, Club-os, Floating Frogs, but for a floating bait with trebles I think because braid is so limp the bait will glide up over it and tangle in the trebles. I think maybe an extra heavy mono, and if glide tangle is still an issue, then tie with a clinch or palomar instead of a loop knot. Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 29, 2015 Report Share The mono works fine, but when tying 2 knots on the same line its next to impossible to get the exact length i want every time... Plus i wouldnt mind something that looks a little neater I was hoping one of the fly tyers would chime in... Id assume they have the most knowledge about leaders on this site Quote Link to comment
CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted June 30, 2015 Report Share Well, if the front bait was a line thru you could put a Carolina stopper on the line behind it. Might even be able to get away with a bobber stopper. Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted June 30, 2015 Report Share Thats good idea Bob!.... You would figure that would have dawned on me seeing as how ive been making those line thru cranks... That would also save me time and weight! Quote Link to comment
CNC Molds N Stuff 628 Posted August 1, 2015 Report Share A shallow running crankbait for the rear bait might be another option. Somewhere around I have a similar rig with a floating topwater (with hooks) followed by a sinking shallow runner. I thinkt he original line part of the rig is gone, but it has inspired me to go see if I have any hard clear carolina stoppers left in one of my hardware boxes. Quote Link to comment
JRammit 455 Posted August 1, 2015 Report Share Bob.... Shhhhhhh! I havnt gotten to that one yet... But i will (and more) Quote Link to comment
