Sexy Shad Bucktail 001

This one is only 4" long as I'm having trouble getting some of my supplies. Ended up having to dye some white bucktail for the back since the colors of hair I ordered didn't show up in the mail. Had no idea they were "out of stock" until I received the rest of the order in the mail today. The chartreuse on the sides is synthetic Fishair and the rest is bucktail with a few strands of flash on the back.

Let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions I'd like to hear them.

thanks for looking,

Ben

Ben, I have to tell you that you are really good at this already!!! The use of fish hair like that is really nice, that stuff is hard to work with if you don't know how to use it and to blend it in with natural buck tail and look like that, simply awesome!!!!!

Hook size seems to be right on target. Shape and size wise.

Red wrap  ,cleanly done.

Color transmission,  smooth.

The whole thing looks "fresh."

For my eyes, It`s a keeper!

Thanks guys. Not sure yet how far I will take things, but so far I'm really enjoying tying these hair jigs. I tried my hand at a few feathered trebles and of the three I tied the third looked much better than the first so I hope progress is being made. The "feedback" when tying is almost immediately recognizable since the boo-boos show up about as quick as you make them. I've got some other ideas floating around in my head and can't wait to get my hands on some of the stuff I've ordered and see where tying takes me.

Braided I can't take credit for the hooks and jig heads. Those are the work of Ted (Cadman) who was most helpful in pouring what I wanted as well as advising me on a number of things. Can't thank him enough. Smalljaw has also been very helpful as well. He's very giving with his help and advice. Couple of great guys. I can't imagine trying to figure all this stuff out without the help of everyone at TU.

Ben, that really looks good, great job. I really like it!

You have given me an idea. I have about every color bucktail there is and  haven't tied any hair jigs in a long time. I make a heavy chatterbait style jig using the ultra minnow mold. The hook eye is spread open and the blade is attached to its back. It works really well.  I think I will give this a shot. Thanks for sharing and the motivation.

Thanks John. I'm really enjoying tying.

I'd thought about trying to build some chatterbait style lures, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Be sure to post some pics of what you come up with. I'd like to see what a hairy chatterbait looks like. :)
