Another alternative to making scale patterns on wood baits. This is a Dremmel tool with a cone sanding bit held on an angle.  One light touch is all that's needed for a perfect scale shape. This pic is just a quick example. If you take the time to make straight lines it can be a great effect. Especially on  foiled baits.  It doesn't need to be perfect to resemble a natural finish. (See the finished bait in the gallery.)
