Trout killers

Here are some spoons that my dad cut out from some copper sheet and i took the dapper block set (I think its called that:huh:) to it and went away. My dad traced a number 2 needle fish and used that as the spoon shape and size. They are about 2inches long and half inch at the thickest part. We used em this weekend and they were just absolute killers for the trout:yeah:.Lol here ya go diemai, these are first spoons and i think we are gonna make some more. they are easy to make and they work to:lolhuh:. Wish all things could be this simple.

Thanks for looking, Jacob

Thanks for posting , Jacob ,....l like their outline shape , ....a tad wider than my own slender models and center of gravity a bit to the rear for better casting ,.......real nice design:yes: !

I suppose , that they also have a crosswise cupping , not visible on this view of them .

Copper sheet is easy to work with , but I have found , that I tend to make the cupping of copper spoons too deep , since the material is quite soft(I'm used to stainless steel) .

Not that important on slender models , but wider spoons cupped too deep would have a tendency to flip over and not wiggle anymore .

Thanks again:yay: , Dieter

Thank ya much Tim, the fish also like that look tolaughing.gif

These spoons would be darn near impossible to cast due to the size, maybe if you were to use super light line you could probably get it out a good 20 yards max:huh:. But me and my dad like to mainly troll and these spoons have a very erratic action. And yes they do have a cupping at the fattest part, have not made one that has rolled over on its self yet but i was very surprised at the ease of getting the spoons to swim as compared to some of the lures that i have tried to makelaughing.gif. My pleasure posting these for you toworship.gif

Thanks for the advise on the cupping though, will use it when I make some more spoons:yes:

Thanks, Jacob

As far as for the casting , in Europe we most likely utilise spinning reels mounted to 8 to 12 feet rods and possibly thin braid ,..... I guess with my gear I could get at least 40 yards out of your spoons:huh: , if they were 1/20" thick ,...... if about 1/10" thick , 60 to 70 yards would be possible(without too much wind) .

Casting gear is not much suited for smaller and lighter lures , I know ,.... only use it for heavier glider and topwater baits .

That would be so cool to cast these spoons that far!!! With a setup like you subscribed casting these would not be a problem at all. These would be perfect for fishing in a river, just cast up stream and the spoon would not sink very quickly but will more of float down and i bet it will have a wobble on the way down i bet:?. Hehehe:twisted: i bet the fish would love it to!!!

Thanks, Jacob
