First Balsa Bait

This is my first through wire constructed, balsa wood lure. Everything was done by hand. The only power tool used was a Dremel. The bait is 2 5/8" long and 1 1/4" tall. Don't know how much it weighs as I don't have a scale yet. It was sealed with two coats of super glue with sanding between coats. A coat of slightly thinned D2T was then applied over the super glue for a smooth finish. AutoAir and Createx paints with a final clear coat of DN.

This was more of an experiment to see if I could even build a bait. It was tested in the bathtub and with some minor tweaking it ran straight and true with a fairly tight and active wobble. As you might expect I've already started checking the prices on some power tools that will make things much easier.

I'd like to thank everyone that helped me and took the time to answer the many questions I've posted here at TU. Without your help there is no way I could have built, or even painted, this lure. I'm hoping this is just the first of many.

thanks guys,

Ben

Thanks guys. Only by putting together everything I've learned here at TU was this even possible and I'm kind of proud of it. Had such a good time building this one I've already started a couple more.

Ben, very sweet bait. Been making same type bait for a few years and this looks better than I can turn out now. Very good job. The paint is top notch, but then you have been turning out some great paint jobs for a while. I would certainly fish it. It will be a fish catcher.

Thanks Rookie. Great talkin' to you the other night as well. You didn't sound at all like the hillbilly Dean told me you were. :P We'll have to do it again sometime. Might have to setup a conference call with the Professor so we can all have a chat. Bet it would be a hoot.
