moss mouse new fixture

This is the new fixture i came up with for the mouse moss mold - the mold itself didnt come out so good (bubbles), but I made this so that it easily pops out and I can mold a new master at any time. The rod provides for a thru-wire insertion of the hook. I used 8mm pen blank tubes. I also have a mold in the works for multiple 'nose plugs' using, you guessed it, 8mm pen tips to form a mold that will go around around the eye of the hooks, and then simply push into the mouse from the backside to fit perfectly in the nose. See the related pictures before and after this one.

Steve I know this is your first two piece mold and I wanted to share a little insight to improve your pours. By no means am I a pro at this but have been playing around with silicone for the past two years. I have a silmular two piece mold something like yours. The only mistake I made was I forgot to installed a vent hole on the mold. Now without the vent hole there are two things happening within the mold once you pour in the 350 degree plastic. You have to allow for explansion and contraction. Explansion for when the the plastic is hot and Contraction for when the plastic cooled down. The vent hole is very important for the mold to breathe. What I have noticed is that when you don't have a vent hole that a dimple will form in the bait durning cool down mode what is happening here is that the mold create a vacuum during its cool down phase and actually will want to pull air in from the pour hole. You can still cut in a vent line in your mold by carefully taking an exacto knife to it. I hope this help. Again just wanted to share a few tips. Good luck with your baits. Hope to see many more come out.

If I am not mistaken Frank his baits are hollow. This is the reason for the turning apperatus. He is making hollow Mice just like the frogs from say snagproof. Frank

Steve and Frank thanks for the insight on the bait. It makes sense now to me I was trying to figure this one out if steve was pouring it with the standard plastic. I would hate for someone to get discouraged while making there first two piece mold. This is what is so cool to this site. We can all learn from one another.and boy let me tell you guys I have learned the hard way with very little help from any lure builders. I can understand that secrets are kept to one another because those folks think that it is something of there own. But remember most of these secrets were taught up many years ago by the oldtimers,Now I am not saying all of these secrets because I have seen some incredible swimbaits and lures in my time and till this day scratch my head and say to myself how and the hell did they build that. Again guys I am a rookie at this but will always do my best to help out a fellow baitmaker. Steve and Frank Keep the lure coming I have really enjoyed reading your posts. Till next time.
