Balsa RC 1.5

This is my second finished lure out of balsa. Made to resemble an RC 1.5. It's 2 7/16" long, 15/16" wide and 1 1/32" tall. Not an exact copy, but close enough after shaping and sanding for hours. It has a wire through harness, is weighted with 0.120 oz. of ballast and has a finished weight of 0.410 oz. including hooks and hardware. Had to bend the lip where it fits into the lip slot so it would miss the wire harness, but the angle and size once it leaves the slot are the same as the RC 1.5. Not sure how deep it will run, but it has no trouble getting to the bottom of the bathtub.

@Mark I

t took me a lot longer to build this one out of balsa that it took you to build yours. Worked on it for a few hours at a time for 2 or 3 days, but all the shaping and sanding is done by hand.

@j27

Bending the lip like that wasn't hard at all. After cutting it out and smoothing the edges I just clamped it to the edge of my work bench and warmed it with a heat gun until it was soft enough to bend. The only critical part of it was making sure the lip was square to the edge of the table. If you give it a try I suggest cutting a template out of stiff paper, or thin cardboard, to be able to gauge the angle. That way you can just hold the template up beside it to check the angle.

Thanks guys. Glad you like it.
