The Flipping Grub in 3 Colors

I know you guys have seen this bait before, but I have been playing with colors. On top is my attempt at Natural Shad. Its almost right. Color is good, jut a tiny bit lighter than Gary would make it. I think I am going to document that recipe and that's what I am going to make. 1/2 cup salt. 1 cup plastic. 1/4 teaspoon fine silver flake, and 18 drops of Bears black. In the middle is a white pearl made with white pearl powder. I remember I used 1 tblspoon of powder, but I don't remember if I made up 2 cups or 4 of plastic. On the bottom is a laminate that looks like it came right our of one of Frank's videos. If you look close its a nice split from the head all the way to the tip of the tail. Dark watermelon on top and white pearl on the bottom.

I caught have caught fish on the laminate shown, and in moderately dark watermelon as well now.

Caught four on the watermelon flipping a stretch of bank 150 yards long the other day. So far the 5.5 on the white pearl is my best on this bait.

I recently gave somebody some RFGs in red shad to try out. They commented that they didn't have much action, so I decided to test them. I've certainly caught plenty of fish on RFGs this year in white pearl, dark watermelon, watermelon red, and laminated watermelon pearl. Still sometimes other people see things more clearly than you do when you are emotionally invested in your own work.

I had to look closely, but the red shad did seem to have a tiny bit less flexibility than the watermelon colors tested. Interesting. I think the pearl powder made the bait stiffer just the way salt makes a bait stiffer. I have already tested some formulations to get a good snap to the color without the use of pearl powder. It does seem have the same action as the watermelon now. I'm also going to be trying some softner for white pearl (which certainly catches fish the way it is).
