Yellowing Plastic

Recommended Posts

Do you think there is yellowing here. I heated a gallon of plastic today just to test a few things, took 30 minutes to get hot (350 degrees, start to finish in presto pot, no pre heat), and I took a few pics in the mean while, added color after 1 hr 25 minutes and shot a few baits, had plastic hot for 1 hr 56 minutes total. after reaching 350 I backed the heat off to 320. after first pic i raised heat back to 340. My temps are very very accurate, Used 3 different measuring devices. This was done with a stiring system, ran non stop for 1 hr 56 minutes. Dipping device is a bright white plastic measuring spoon.

63 minute pic is 33 minutes after getting 350.

1hr 12 is 42 minutes after inital 350 heat.  raising temp back to 340 from 320.

Last pic shows after 1hr 28 minutes I could easily lay my palm on the cover, It was about 125 degrees I suspect.

Looks good, but then you knew that already, since it is obvious.  I too had good luck this weekend keeping plastic hot without discoloring and am very glad I changed suppliers.  I nuked it to 340 F as usual, and then put it in the Presto.  It usually takes me 45 to 80 minutes to run out 12 cups. Nice to get almost caught up on the whites and light smoke colors finally.  It is also nice to be able to reheat and add sprues back to the mix.
