Rattletrap Blank

Recommended Posts

Just about every blank retailer carries a version of lipless bait.  But if you really want something to mimic the action of a Red Eye Shad, you need to buy one and repaint it.  I don't use lipless baits enough to discriminate much among brands but I think it depends on the exact action you want.  Red Eyes are advertised to shimmy while they drop through the water column on a slack line.  At least that's what KVD says!  Other guys want a bait that will come to rest on the bottom in a upright position.  Maybe your preference depends on how you like to fish them.

Thanks... my problem is I don't own them long enough for them to need paint! LOL

i bought some blanks a while back from lure parts but I'm not really into them. The redeye shad are over 6 dollars a piece now so i thought maybe i could save a few dollars if someone made a decent blank. The lakes here a full of rocks and they will eat a trap as soon as you throw it in.

I am having good luck with Do-it molds lipless.  It is white and has very loud rattles but is not as stable as Rat-L- traps but it catches em.  Go too fast thou and it rolls on its side.  Bustin bass baits #37 I love but haven'y caught em as well on them.  It is a great blank, very good quality.  stable but quiter thank rat-l-traps  I am still finding that I like rat-l-trap originals the best and you might find the same with red-eye shad so I'm saying that BobP is pretty accurate.  Use what works.  You can't always get a good knock off.

Just picked up 37 new strike king red eye shad 1/2 oz models out the sale bin for $1.99 a piece. The colors are crappy so I'll fix that. I think it was $77 and some change after tax. The manager said he couldn't sell that color so he was clearing them out. It was Gander Mountain in Winchester Virgina if anyone local wants any. I left a few but not many. I picked out most the 1/2 and left the 1/4 and 3/4. There was a couple hundred of the strike king diamond shad rattletrap in the bin along with some jerk baits.

Get one of the lure retrievers in this thread and save yourself alot of money:  http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/28855-plug-knocker/

I use unpaintedlures.com aruku shad and the aruku shad Jr..  The aruku shad is a half ounce and does not nose dive to the bottom it falls slow and almost horizontal.  The  aruku shad Jr. is a little over half an ounce and is a much faster lipless.
