Base Hole Pins/powder Paint

Recommended Posts

I hate to add another base hole pin/weed guard question but....  Do you guys cure your paint with the pin in or out? I tried curing with the metal pin in and it is hard to pull the pin out (Sometimes it makes the hole a little messy) at the end of curing.

Would the teflon pins eliminate this issue?

I do not use any pins. I powder paint the jig head and cure in the oven. I then place a drill bit the same size as the hole diameter into my variable speed dremel. I hold the cured jig in my left hand and the drill bit at the lowest rpm and apply a little pressure. The drill bit proceeds to follow the hole to the bottom and cleanly remove the cured paint from the weed guard hole.Works like a charm. Just did about 100 crappie jigs with the Do-it F9 weed guard last night. It has a 1/16" base diameter and so I used a 1/16 drill bit. I found that you have to do this after you cure the paint. If you do it before you chip a lot of paint off on the jig surface.
