Arcs and Sparks in the Nuker?

Recommended Posts

I am not saying your doing this so dont take it wrong, but you dont have the metal spoon or knife still in there do you?

I had one guy that had the same problem and it turned out he left the spoon in there.

A few other things to check

make sure that the container you are heating up in has no metalic paint or linings

You know I just thought of another thing , That I should have remembered.

A long time ago there was a post either here or on taklemaking(when it ws running) that a guy had a problem with silver glitter in his microwave. others did not.

then a few other guys posted about seeing this at one time or another as well.

Glitter is bright and shiny and it will refleck light or microwaves at some point, so if your using alot of glitter that might be something to look into.

something to think about. If its arcing in one microwave use the other.

Since melting plastics in a microwave is relitvely new, ther are some problems that some people are having this could be one of them.

Another one is a microwave will trap moisture and cause your plastic to bubble in some real rare cases (usually when there is high humidity). what happens is that a mcrowave cooks so fast it traps moisture.

My small (0.008) Lurecraft silver causes my micro to arc!!! It was like pouring rocks in the lake anyways...real heavy!!!

The small (0.008) red from LC bleeds like a stuck pig also....

lucky I got both of those for free, otherwise I might be talking bad about LC :D !!

I had the same problem with some hologram glitter I ordered from one distributor. If the flakes where sitting on top of the plastic as it was melting, they would spark and flame. I sent back 10 lbs. and chewed him out since I specifically said, "for microwave use", before I ordered it.

He swore it was supposed to be all poly with a thin metallic coating but I'm sure it was aluminum based.( I only order .008 abd.015 flakes from him because of colors I can't get anywhere else. (lt. blue, lt copper, lime, rem. steel))

If you immerse and stir in the flakes in completely, once the plastic is melted, there should be no arching. Flakes exposed near the rim of the container may arc just like aluminum that's too close to the wall. Flakes that are immersed aren't affected.

( You can use aluminum in a microwave to retard the cooking of one end of a piece of meat that's very thick, as long as it's well of bottom and away from the edges.)
