Rigging crawdads

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this goes in this forum or not but how do you usually rig soft plastic crawdads especially some of the newer more realistic varietys?

Craw-worms I usually rig Texas style but the newer style I guess they are craw-tube I am having to use a standup jig.

Is this the common practice? or is there a better way to rig them?

I noticed I get less hook ups with the stand up jigs, but thats probably me more than anything.

Also anyone know of any good molds for realistic crawdad plastics, hand pour type would be nice.

I don't know of any realistic type molds :? The 'craw tube' type baits wouldn't be ideal for handpours due to the hollow body. Way to much labor for the molds.

I fish my own craws  But, when rigging these baits in the past, I simply t-rigged them. If you use an EWG hook and line it up correctly, the bait will fall bottom down and retrieve relatively straight. I would use a 3/0 or 4/0 hook depending on the size of the bait. I liked the hook point to penetrate just behind the head.
