the lure guy Posted March 13, 2005 Report Share Posted March 13, 2005 Last night I read some posts about making a cookbook for hard bait paint colors. These posts were about a year old. Has this cookbook ever been created? If not, is there anyone willing to share their paint mixing ratios with me? I am relatively new to lure making. I have purchased the original Createx set of 36 paints, but I would like to know how to mix these paints to achieve some often used colors that Createx does not offer, such as chartruese, olive, and craw reds. Not as many recipes as the soft bait sticky so far, but still some good info. For brown and green craw colors with C-tex start with Leaf Green as your base and mix to your color by adding Light Brown, Dark Brown, Scarlet, Iron Oxide Red, and sometimes Yellow. Without knowing an exact color you are trying to match that is the best start on those. I like Red (transparent), Flo Red, and Iron Oxide Red, with blends of the above browns for the red craw colors. Adjust any of them with extender and plain medium to increase transparency. Chartreuse is C-tex Flo Yellow, although a thinned and extended Yellow (transp) will also work, esp for some the old bagley chartreuse colors. PM me if I can be of further help. I have come close to the match but its not as good as store bought. Look into other companies besides createx such as for olive > I buy it from DUNCAN paints. Also check out "SMITH PAINTS" for colors that createx does not have. Smiths is a airbrush paint maker. They have way many colors over createx. Createx needs thinned too often. Your going to loose alot of piant by mixing because your proble not working with a air tight system. This means that everytime you expose your paint to the outside world and mix colors > you'll waste plenty and it will be thicker. If you can give smiths the mix combo > they can mix it for you I 'm sure. Depends on how much you order> the more the less$. They make and mix there own paint.
