Some Lumaflex questions...

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I'm thinking of making a spinnerbait using lumaflex, but had a couple of questions that the search function didn't answer...

Any knowledge of alternative suppliers apart from living rubber? There was a post listing UKI Supreme, they do have dyed spandex fibers, but not sure if this has the same (strength/diameter/shine) as lumaflex tm? Spirit river supplies the fly tying community with flexi-/stretch floss, but this would be very expensive on a per bait basis...

Since lumadye is no longer manufactured, does anyone know of a non-bleeding long-lasting commercial dye that will work on spandex? That I figure is the simplest option, buying bulk rolls in white from living rubber and dyeing them in custom colors...

Lastly, how to make skirts with luma flex on a production basis? The wrap around cardboard method seems to be rather inefficient for large quantities...

Thanks!

Clemmy

The Lumaflex that Supreme sells is the same as Living Rubber. They have about the same color options. Supreme pricing is much better than LR. Call them and get a color sample card and a price sheet.

Supreme Corporation - (828)322-6975

I made a wrapper using a small piece of wood with 2 screws 6 inches apart. Once the material is wrapped I attach a twist tie on one end. Cut the bottom loop and you have a skirt ready to go into your collar. Once you spool off the length of material you need, grab it in the middle and double wrap it. This will cut the wrap time in half. Let me know if you find a more efficient way to do this.
