What I'd like to know is amongst the different material available skirt material for S/Baits which do u consider the best & why?? Or certain material is good for some conditions? Mr B Posted June 7, 2005 Report Share Posted June 7, 2005 I like the Silicone on my spinnerbaits. It will last longer and not melt as easily as living rubber. It is a little stiffer than living rubber also. This will make it so it dosnt go limp against the hook shank while reeling the bait in. Also I like the metal flake in my skirts on spinnerbaits. Silicone is hard to beat for alot of reasons, but for my personal baits there is nothing like Lumaflex. It can be dyed almost any color you want, it looks great in the water and it is almost indestructible plus works with more accent materials than others. kingfish Posted June 27, 2005 Report Share Posted June 27, 2005 Bucktail I can dye it to almost any color, two tones whatever. It's tough, commonly fish for Musky and Pike that are very toothy. I can get a good number of lures tied from a single tail so expense is limited.(dependent on lure size of course) Overall I prefer the look of well tied bucktail, either in the water or dry. I'm always looking for a different approach to do the same thing. If there is only one way to do things, this world would be too boring to bear. There is actually a traditional lure here that coonsist of 3/4 strands of feather tied just like a bucktail to a cylindrical lead, sort of like those big-game trollling skirt set up & it catches fish, u can do one in 30 seconds flat. topppher Posted July 1, 2005 Report Share Posted July 1, 2005 Many of the people that I have talked to like the living rubber for it's action in the water, it is a little more springy when it is new, but it fades and wears out quickly... not to mention trying to find the stuff now a days... I personally use silicone, last longer, and you can find it in about 500 different colors or more... and if you really wanted, you can have some custom made in about a million more... The Baitshops that I take care of have noticed about 3 to one ratio in sales of my lures over the rubber breather skirted spins... food for thought. This has been a really good seller for me this year, I have only been fishing once this year, and it did catch a fish, so I will keep it...
