gat0r
How do you guys go about powder painting jigheads with weedguards. Specifically the problem I have is the weedguard curling under the heat and fanning out or worse. Is there a way to secure the weed guard without hurting it to heat either by flame or oven? I've been lurking a while here and always great information. Thanks in advance for your time. Just painting bulk jigheads for selling to friends. Thanks, gat0r
cheesehead
I've never painted any with weed guards but I've heard some people wrap the guard in foil before heating it. Are you pouring your own heads? if so leave the guards out until the heads are painted then epoxy them in place.
jigmaster
Two things you can do..........first, fuse the end of the weedguard on the side of your pot, before placing in the mold to pour. It will be easier to process this way. Then, go to your local industrial supply house, and buy yourself a 3-4 foot piece of TEFLON tubing.....I use 3/16 ID, and 1/16 wall thickness. Cut to the length of the weedguard....approx 1 3/4 in ch lengths. You can cut teflon with a pair of side cutters. SLide tube over the weedguard........then heat, remove the tube, and dip in paint. Then.........slide the tubes back on the weedguards when curing. THen, cut the fused end of the weedguard back off to the desired length. Works like a champ. The reason for fusing the end is to keep it from fanning, and also to make it easier to process while painting. I have done 1000's of weedguards in this fashion let us know how you make out. gat0r
Thanks Guys! That's a great suggestion JM! Going there today. I figured out on my own this weekend I could take the skirt bands and wrap them around the tips of the weedguards, then heat my head and dip. I am going to try your suggestion JM for curing and heating once I get the tubing. I've got several painted now. I'm not pouring my own heads yet. Just buying bulk football heads. But I do plan to get to pouring my own heads once I get the house finished and my shop setup there. Then I'll be bugging you guys like crazy! Thanks again for the help! Great site! gat0r
Mr B
I have been using the same process as Jigmaster for the past few years also. Works great. Mr B
topppher
I just use the slugs that you get with the mold, heat, dip, drill out the holes with a fixture that I made and a small drill press. I then epoxy the guards into place. This process works pretty good for me, but I thnk that I am going to pick up some teflon tube, and try that method. Thanks, Chris
SMALLIEHUNTER
I FIRST TAKE A PLIERS & REMOVE THE WEED GUARD. PAINT OR POWDERCOAT IT . THEN I DRILL THE HOLE AND THEN USE LOCTITE SUPERGLUE GEL & GLUE IN THE WEED GUARD!!!!!!!!!
fishtricks
I have done the foil heat shroud method with SOME success. I wrapped the foil around a pencil to form a tube then smash it around the weedguard. I now just add them after painting. I like the teflon idea.
