pouring smooth lead jigs

Recommended Posts

Hello all, just a quick question, hope I can find some insight. I pour my own jigheads, and sometimes they are pitted or not as smooth as I would like. I spoon the dross off the top while pouring, but there must be some other steps I need to take. I use wheel weights, maybe this has something to do with it. If so, what type of lead do I need to look for and where can I acquire some?? Any help is much appreciated. Merry Christmas to all!!!

Take a candle, kerosene lamp, etc... and smoke the mold. Lay the mold on top of your pot as it's warming up. These two measures should solve your problem. Wheel weights are not the best lead but should work fine for jig heads. It's a hard lead with lots of in-purities. You want a soft lead when possible.
