Mustad or Gamakatsu for Bass Jig?

Recommended Posts

Ok, Here we go...

I used Mustad light wire this summer---Bent it out everytime.

I used Gamakatsu #614 4/0 and it was better but not quite perfect.

Frankly, I have had good luck with the Gammies but a guy called me a fool for not using the Mustad. What has your experiences been with these jig hooks. Oh yeah, I prefer the 60 degree FLAT Eye.

I bought some Mustad 32786BLN but they have straight eye NOT flat. Otherwise they seem to be fine int he strenght dept.

I also bought some Gammie #291. Once again, strenght is fine but straight eye.

I have some Gammy 5941 coming in witht hte flat eye. Is this the hook I need?

What's the differences between the 2 manuafcturers? Thanks

depends on what you are trying to do with the jig.....if you are flipping that jig with a 32798, it cannot handle that kind of application.......i know a guy who was flipping docks with a 1/4 jig I made with the 32798.....he was flipping with braid, and straightened the hook......that should not surprise anyone...if you are using 6-10# mono on a spinning rod, probably gonna be ok with the 32798

32798 4/0 has a thicker wire than the 3/0, also

gammie 5941 is a flipping hook.....if you are looking for a heavy wire flateye, that will work for you.....mustad makes thier own thick wire flateye.......32796

let us know how you do

I am using the Mustad mainly because the girl at Shorty's told me that the Gammies were sharper to start with but the Mustad stayed sharp longer and after limited use would be sharper than the Gammies. I like the Mustad and have had no problem with them and certainly the price is more attractive. Pop
