Searching for a mold for a 3/4 ounce Arky jig, preferably for a flat eye hook. Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

I'd have a peak at your local buy/sell like facebook marketplace or Kijiji. Seems like a lot of people have gotten into airbrushing for a brief time and sell it all when they realize they don't want to do it anymore. I've picked up a bunch of Golden/Aztek/Createx paints for a bargain that way.

Phthalates have very little to do with it. The issue will be the plasticizers and stabilizers smoking off when the plastic is hot. Those fumes are not what you want to inhale at all. If you pay attention to the exhaust system (unless you're outside you should 10000% have an adequate exhaust system in place) the fumes leave an oily residue. That residue is being left in your lungs when you breathe this stuff in......Regardless if the plastic is "Phthalate Free" (that's a topic for another day) or not.

I'm curious what you use to thin the folkart paints. I've tried a few times and have had mixed results, with none being what I would call good.

I save a ton of money by buying the Folkart acrylic paints at Walmart and thinning them down. They only cost $0.58 a 2 ounce bottle. Once you learn how to thin the paints down correctly you can use almost any acrylic paint for airbrushing.

I pretty much use soft for action. I do add hardner when I want a little stiffer bait.

It really depends on the type of bait you’re pouring and your presentation. Soft= lots of bait movement but does not last long due to teeth or structure. Medium= just that, middle of the road in bait movement and durability. Hard= less movement of the bait but it lasts for several catches or snags. With that said, some bait types like swimbaits often times call for a medium or hard plastic to maintain their action. Tubes is another I generally pour with a hard plastic for durability. With crappie baits I use medium or soft plastic. I suggest trying out a few different manufacturers’ plastic sample kits to get a feel for what you want rather than being disappointed in a gallon of money spent. If you do a sample kit, shoot your favorite mold once in clear then try some with color. Do this with all three firmnesses. Let the baits hang for several days to a week and see if the clarity and firmness suit your needs. Make detailed notes with dates in a notebook as you go.

I know you got soft, medium and hard. What is a good way to go and reason. I'm from Western N.Y.. I like to fish St. Lawrence River, Finger Lakes. Ontario, Erie and small rivers. Bass, Pike Family and Waleye.

It depends on the plastisol, not all have (palates) not sure on the spelling.

Years ago - apx. 15 or so - I was thinking this hobby was making me feel off . I took the SDS sheet to my doctor. He told me nothing on it looks bad. Later I found out that its the fumes from it, not the plastisol it self. Maybe the SDS sheets have changed to warn you about the fumes ?? But then they hid it from us.

Im guessing it does not chip easily with 2-3 dips? Is it uv activated?

I use CS Coatings Seal-Coat on my jigging spoons. Very little to no smell. Two to three coats depending if I do an initial coat with glitter in it. Dip and drip. Being water based it can also be thinned and applied through an airbrush. After a few days of cure time it seems rock solid.

Do you know any clearcoat that does not have a extreme smell?

From my experience with Solarez UV resin, I think any UV resin would add weight that would affect the side to side fall of a casting spoon.

Sorry, I don't know of any, but I'm sure they're out there. Most local lumber yards get samples of new products. See if they'll let you float test those to see which one is most buoyant. You can do it in a tupperware container full of their water.

Would brushing alumi uv on spoons work, i have used kbs but as for now the smell of kbs is very strong for me so i want to opt out of it and looking for alternatives that would work on spoons with less odor
