crank bait weighting and balance

Recommended Posts

8O hi guys, new to this sight as well as lure building, and love both of them, ihave a couple of long winded questions, when making cranks out of pine, do you have to drill a weight hole for balance (every piece of wood would be diffrent? correct?) or can you cut oot your body sand and add the lip ,hooks etc, then using a spacer type washer or whatever else? place it on the outside of the lure to find its proper balance point( if needed add a second spacer on another spot)??? , just seems it would be a lot easier to do this then to have to weigh and drill and fill every lure?also is there any difference between using lexan and metal diving lips, as far as action goes, besides cost? Does using metal lips help with the balancing (ballast) of the lure? Do already pre-formed wooden bodies that you buy ie: large muskie baits and poppers, do they still have to be weighted? The one problem i'm having with the spacer i'm using is that it doesn't look as cosmetically pleasing as a drilled and filled one, the spacer is metal and do you have any suggestions to coat it (stopping corrosion), or would in be easier to drill a hole and put the spacers up in the hole? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to this rookie.

Thanks

Rob
