figuring out the weight of lead in a drilled hole

You can use the attached EXCEL spreadsheet to calculate the weight of lead in a drilled hole. You have the choice of imperial or metric drill bit sizes. If you use imperial drills, look up the decimal equivalent in the table that is included on the sheet. Please e-mail if you have any questions.

If you click on "download", you will get the spreadsheet.

It takes care of the annoying calculations required to calculate the volume of the drilled hole.

The formula for the volume of a drilled hole is:

PI * radius^2 *hole depth.

PI=3.14159265358979

Convert this volume to cubic centimeters and multiply by 11.39 which is the specific density of lead.

1 cubic centimeter of lead weighs 11.39 grams.

1 gram of lead weighs 0.0352739619 ounces.
