Tm Customs
I collect bagleys and other hand made cranks, the problem is that the lead pops on the bottom and they crack in time what can I don to prevent this? Thanks, TM
cheesehead
It sounds to me that the wood would be drying out and shrinking. I would consider storing them in a humidity controlled enviroment. Outdoor humidity levels are usually around 15-20 % depending upon where you live. If you are storing these in your house the humidity level is between 6-8% thus the wood will dry and shrink. Skeeter
Get in touch with dtrs5krps on this site by either email or private msg. He collects allot of Bagleys also. He would be the best person to ask in my opinion. Skeeter
KcDano
That problem isn't exclusive to Bagley baits, I own several vintage baits that if not for the paint loss over the belly weight, would be darn near perfect. As cheesehead mentioned a controlled enviroment will slow the process. However, once the oxidation process (that nasty white powder) begins on the surface of lead beneath the paint, I don't if there is anything that can be done. The white oxidation in effect is what pops the paint of the lead weight. If you do find a remedy for this problem I would appreciate the heads-up!
