getting cranks to come apart

Recommended Posts

I think most plastic cranks are ultrasonically welded. I doubt there's any neat way to get them apart other than cutting or drilling them. On many products, the weld or glue seams are usually stronger than the underlying material.

The easiest way I know to get a crankbait to come apart is to slam it into your trolling motor when casting! However, the crankbait is not always guaranteed to split at the seams.

Seriously, I don't think there is a way to split them without cutting. Are you trying to add or remove something in the bait? Just curious........

my friend does it all the time to just about every crank he paints. he takes out the rattles and somtimes weights it from the inside to make a floating lure suspend or sink. he does it perfectly and puts the back together and it looks like nothing ever happened.
