You can try it - I've learned a lot about mixing so if you do make sure to write down everything you do. I don't worry about how much clear I use as I buy it by the pound. Start out with a tablespoon of your color and a 2 table spoons of clear. Dip a head and see if it's what you want. If it's not try more clear but mark down every time and the amount you add. If you dont' want to try that contact Columbia and see how much they'd charge to make it for you - doesn't hurt to ask. There is a lot of stuff not on their site.

Treble hooks sure do a number on them, no question. I might use cranks with single barbless hooks for them. Honestly though, trout and flies are like ham and grits, they were made for each other. So much more fun to catch a trout on a fly rod, my 2¢...

I agree. I have fished a lot of swing football jigs and noticed the same. I actually haven't fished the poison swingtail yet though. It's my newest mold. I have a feeling it will become one of my favorites though lol

It's what one enjoys and most people just goes with the majority. Me with a ultralight set up I'm excite with a large bull bream, crappie or whatever. A little heavier rod I'm going crazy over smallmouth, walleye, etc. I enjoy catching nice fish that I'm after. Largemouth is fine to but what does it for me is having the lightest set for the biggest fish. I have chance and the fish has a chance. Games on! Dale

I tie a lot of hair jigs and I have used both wire weed guards and fiber weed guards and the wire weed guards work well in rock, other than that I like using the small 1/16" FG-9 fiber weed guard. You can add a wire weed guard to any weedless mold, for jigs that have a small weed guard slot you simply use plumbers putty to fill the slot and then add the wire or you can use aluminum foil to hold the wire and keep the lead from bleeding out of the cavity. For normal 1/8" diameter weed guards all you need is a skirt collar and put the wire in the center and drop it in the slot, the collar holds the wire and keeps the lead from bleeding out as well. So if you have a size with a certain hook, you can find someone to pour them with wire weed guards.

I use the Swing Jig football and Poison Tail jigs extensively and watching them in the water with a variety of baits I don't think the baits make a significant improvement in the swing back and forth. However, if you watch Skimpy's water tank testing video and the baits in clear water what you do see is a significant improvement in the "tail up" with many baits. I have landed well over a 100 bass on the football and Poison tail swing jigs (up to 6.5 lbs) and what I have noticed is that there is a SIGNIFICANT decrease in the bass's ability to leverage the weight and throw the hook/bait. The leverage is decreased in the "Swing" wire. I won't say I didn't loose any fish....but I don't remember loosing any! Watch his aquarium video and see if you agree. Especially the Mad Dad 3xl at the end!
