  1. I have posted this complex sinusoidal idea many times, in the last post of comments page 2 for example. I have even drawn the graphs on post No19 of this link. I might have posted some 14 years ago when I first thought of the idea and experimented with it, but may have kept it to myself at that time. I am very impressed that you arrived at the graphs independently, good engineering mind. Simple harmonic motion is always on an architect’s mind when designing tall thin structures or long bridges. There have been famous disasters due to combinations of SHM and vortex shedding. I do think that the double sinusoidal action has a chance of an explanation for your tail-spin lure, but not the Bass-Oreno, that is more likely caused by my definition of hunting, the lip passing 90° on the retrieve. On the tail-spin, the two actions are quite separated. Here is a video of a lure that I was experimenting with called ‘Big Ed’. It is a soft bait with a bulbous nose and a tail boot. The large sinusoidal motion is too slow to be assigned regular vortex shedding and so I am inclined to think that a complex sinusoidal action is going on. See what you think. Dave

  2. Yeah it's a simplification and a guess at that. oops, I thought you had said the colorado didn't work. I was modelling to fit results, not running a simulation, so I was shooting to miss there. I didn't say baits would run to the side though. I said they'd spend more time on one side of center. They'll still track straight.

  3. It really depends upon a lot of things, however here would be an example for injection baits. Mold - $35 for Do-It Essential Series Mold (molds range widely in price depending upon what you want) Plastisol - Varies by Brand and size - $50 Gallon Colorant and Glitter - $15 total (a few basic colors) Tools - Injector, clamps, etc - $70 Total for above - $170. Some places sell kits so you could get certain products combined and lower the cost. Like many hobbies 1 mold turns into 10 and 1 color turns into 20 and on and on. All the molds and tools are resuable so cost goes down in theory. If you look around you can find sales or used stuff. In the end do I save money making baits, not even close. Would I get into the hobby again, 100x over.

  4. If there is one thing I've learned about message boards and the interblab. ...there is always someone who knows more than you. Or thinks they do. Good luck with your purchase. When your kids and grandkids can't find a job anymore you can sit and wonder why. Shipping is peanuts. If all you can compete on is price then I suggest you look for something else to do. I see plenty of guys with a lathe, drill press and a band saw jump into the wood lure market and sell $30 lures every day. Make a good product at a fair price and do it legit and people will beat your door down. Peace n hair grease. I'm out.

  5. I treat shipping different than most guys, I just don't add it to the lure when I purchase some. To me it comes under expense of the company and at the end of the year I can see what my shipping is and where to save on it. I know it all comes down to profit and loss but if you can, just don't say it cost me $1.00 per lure and I will just charge $3.00 that will cover everything, that's is where you are wrong, I am no CPA but I have been in a printing business for over 25 yrs. Retired now! You have to look at the whole picture and bundle up your orders to save on shipping where you can maybe bigger orders which bring down everything and some times free shipping.
