I just ordered that RoyalMax myself. I sure hope it works well. I have spent way too much time deep cleaning the two badger siphon feeds that I have. I absolutely hate them. They work well after spending hours cleaning them for about a tablespoon of paint.. then it's splatter time.

Thank you for your replys mark. I have a balsa prototype I am finishing up. If it runs correctly, I am going to do a batch of ten or so of them. After that I, am going to attempt the identical lure out of PVC in order to evaluate the process and results. I had no idea that airbrush paints required heat setting. I will be doing this starting tonite. Being bald I am going to need to go buy a hairdryer..LOL

heat setting? Can you tell me a little more about this Mark? Do you do this with createx paints or is it something that is done with the topcoats. Hairdyer? Heat Gun?

I would really like to discuss the advantages of building with PVC. I see a member named Mark Poulson started a thread and wrote a great article on it but it is pinned for some reason. Anyone else experimenting with this? I was hoping to skip spraying with white and paint directly on the white PVC but Mark took a different approach. I am wondering why he still sprays with white.

Wow, I remember when I used to try and spray that crap. I will say I learned a hell of a lot about how to clean an airbrush. 90 percent of your time will be spent assembling and disassembling your brush.

Tail slightly down is best. This also puts the weight toward the tail and improves the casting distance and the attitude of the lure when it strikes the water. You dont want a lure flipping in the air. Also the bait radius should not match or exceed the radius of the blades. It takes a bit of experimentation but I love the strike on a great blade bait.

I don't know what KBS is. Is that a topcoat? I use Devcon and I have used envirotex lite. When I glitter I mix it right in my topcoat and apply. I usually recoat after that cures.

On many baits I prime, then thin coat epoxy. Doing it this way if I goof up on the paint, I can wipe off the paint and try again without repriming.

Wow, tough break on the fire but I am glad everyone is OK. Would love to try the swimbait thing myself. I will be watching for it.

Thats a great feeling isnt it. I once gave a lure to a tourney fisherman that had taken me out on his boat a few times. Just as a gift. He was in a tourney later that year and the bite was tough. Only two fish were weighed that day and the winner hit my lure. He ordered three of them after that. One to throw, one as a backup, and one as a display.

Well I learned a real lesson today. Createx restorer turns Testers airbrush paint into glue. I just spent an hour breaking down and getting the ole badger working agian

Isnt that clean already today... made ten new holders for my epoxy turner,. Cleaned up about five others that were serviceable. Undercoated my two new experimental lures. The place is already a mess... and Im loving it.

You know Chuck, that is one of the best things I took from this community. Everyone learns from each other and everyone shares their successes and failures. It really doesnt matter if you just started last week or have ben at it for a lifetime. I am already remembering where I left off in my experiments from the evidence of particially made lures and componants that wee in the boxes. Thanks for the welcome back guys. Oh the wasted years. Cant imagine what Id be trying to do now if I hadn't lost the last 9.

Backflushing.! Why didnt I know this information? ... all these years..... sheesh

I am wondering if etching blades like in a sandblaster would help with paint adhesion. Perhaps then 1 coat of a thin topcoat would do the trick.

Hey Mark, How do you backflush an airbrush?

I dont know if any of the old timers are around from when I was a regular member here. I think the last time I was a poster on this site was about 9 years ago. I had some tragedies happen in my life and as a result had to give up nearly everything. I lost my home, Ranger, and of course my lure shop due to the cheater that I chose to marry. That being said, it has been a long road recovering from all of that mess. I was forced to buy a very small home in which I raised my son. He has now moved out on his own and as a result I have been working to rebuild a lure building shop in his vacated bedroom. It isnt as large but I have finally got all of those boxes that I sealed up with materials and hand tools unpacked. I have blown off the cobwebs and moved in the machines. I have oiled up the rusty tables and rebuilt my finishing table. Just last night I started building a lure that I had made hundereds of before. In fact ,at one time I had a web page that had a tutuorial on it that I was pretty proud of. Darn thing is gone though and so are the files I built to create it. Things have changed for me as well, my eyesight isnt as great, I have forgotten alot of the little details of this fantastic hobby. However, once I get my bearings back and stop screwing up, breaking lures, miscutting , missanding, and all of the other rookie mistakes, I will begin new designs, perhaps a video channel this time. Anyway..... it is DAMN good to be back. Pics of the new shop below.

Aurich: Is that topcoat something that you want to keep a secret? If not, please help a guy out here.
