  1. Got mine this morning. Very nice shirt. Well worth the money guys. Order yours today. Thanks Jerry, Fast service on the shipping.
  2. Welcome Anthony, It's nice to see you following in your Fathers foot steps. Have fun and enjoy the TU experience.
  3. Living room!! Ohhhh my wife would kill me.. If you were to get into using feathers, you and that cat will have to come to some kind of agreement, they love those things. That's where murder is acceptable. That dark hair on the under or actually the top of the buck tail is nice hollow hair. It's good to use it if you want to tie a couple bunches on a hook and trim it to a shape if some kind. You could make a nice small mouse with it because it'll float. You can trim that stuff to look like almost anything if you have the patients. If we can go back in time for a minute, My Dad set up a display in the auto show in Chicago in the early 60's and tied Chevy Vans, and all the cars GM made out of buck tail. I wish I had some of them today. I also wish he had given the talent to me. That hair on those tails can be used if you have the time to play with it. Good luck and have fun
  4. I think I should clarify what I mean about cutting the ends off after the first 3 or so wraps of the thread. Do that if you are rounding the head off to look like a nice neat head by the eye of the hook. The most important thing about working with buck tail, and squirrel tail, is to make sure all the loose butt end hair is out before tying it in place. Like anything else, It depends on what you are tying.
  5. HeyMarkell, This post will be moved to the Fly tying thread I would move it but the control button is missing, Move us Jerry, thanks. The trouble you are having with the buck tail is normal. Not sure exactly where your problem is, so let me do it this way. When you snip the bunch of hair off the buck tail, hold the good hair by the tip and use your finger or scissors to flip the loose hair out of the butt end of the hair. Then using your finger gently pull the hair out and you will have what you need to tie on. If you are right handed get the length of the hair you need with your left hand and the jig or hook, and snip the end off straight, dab a drop of lacquer into the hair. Lay it on the hook and take two or three very tight turns around the hook pulling the hair in tight making the end of the hair stick up or out. Use your scissors to snip off the excess hair and continue to wrap it down. Make sure you have the thread tight from the first wrap to the last wrap. When it's finished use a good amount of clear lacquer to finish it off. If there is something else you need, please give me a shout. Hope this helps you out some.
  6. Welcome Hwy-Apostle, Hope you enjoy the site, glad you found us. I'm sure we can help you along the way to lure making. It can become a bad habit; of course this kind of bad habit is acceptable.
  7. Give me some dates chip. I need to clear it with my program director. That sounds great.
  8. Hey cavu, I've sent a couple email out to see if you can buy that in bulk. I'll PM you when I hear one way or the other.
  9. Hello and welcome to the TU site. Nice to see a person from Arkansas who spells it Arkansaw. Shows you have a good sense of humor. We like that here. At least I do. Hope you enjoy lurking around the site. Looking around in here could lead to some bad habits like building your own lures and spending your lotto money buying lures. Again, Welcome and enjoy.. Any questions, we'll try to answer them.
  10. The one I'm retiring this year is a Herter's model 4. It's a good vice but loosing it's grip. I've been doing a lot of looking lately. It'll be interesting to see what I finally decide on. Probably the one I buy won't last 50 some odd years that this one has lasted. No, I haven't used it that long, It was my Dad's. It's possible that it's older then that.
  11. Yep, It does look as good and 36.99 even sounds better. I have that open here on my desk, been looking at it because I have been thinking about retiring my old one. It's a hard decision, because it's a used and I mean hard used piece of equipment. I probably won't make the purchases until I get ready to get down to business in the late fall when I do most of my continuous tying for next season.
  12. Wow Jim, Personally I don't know. I was looking on ebay and if I was to be buying one, I think I'd get the Regal Rotary C-Clamp, It just looks interesting. No vise comes close to Regal's hook-holding power, ability and simplicity. Self adjusting jaws hold hooks from 6/0 to 32. Squeeze handle and jaws open. Insert hook, release handle and you're ready to tie. Streamlined vises have 360 degree rotation and 220 degree up and down movement for full visual contact. No glare black finish. C-clamp is black. ebay item # 364611306 There is the description from the ebay site. Like I said it looks very interesting. Let us know which one you get.
  13. I have been all over the net this morning looking for the pot like the one I have. No luck, evidently it isn't made anymore. I can't even remember where I bought it. It's a Potter pot and I have been using it for over 30 years. I don't know about the Lee pot, but I never leave my pot empty, There is always lead in it and that keeps the moisture out so it can't form rust. When I'm finished with it I just fill the pot back up, melt it down and take the "crap" off the top and unplug it. The picture I'm putting in here shows the pot with cold lead in it and you can see my colorful little add on table for my pot to get it at a comfortable height. Very important when working with hot lead If you empty your pot when finished, try leaving the lead in the it and see if that keeps the moisture out and stops the rusting. Good luck.
  14. Hey g8r, you need to be carefill where you put your leg. That might not be a log :!:
  15. Working on it Sir. Keep the check book open. Tell you what you can do. Just send me a blank signed check. I'll handle it for you.
  16. It looks like you all have gotten your pkg's. Good! You guys are more then welcome; I enjoyed doing this swap with you. I appreciated the way you all followed the timeline and made it a successful swap. Thank you. One more thing..You have turned me on to soft plastic baits. Thanks again. George, aka Deadly Streamer
  17. That purple with the white curl tail was from MoJo. There was a name tag in all the bags. Must have blown away. Mojo is the owner of that one. I enjoyed reading your fishing story. Sounds like your Wife is a real fisherwomen. That's cool.
  18. Hey Chip, Nice looking bunch of baits. I can appreciate them more after seeing your work area and all the effort you put into your baits. My 83 year old Father-in-law checked the two out you gave me and he about went nuts over them, really excited the ol guy. He was all ready to go test them. But Mother said it was time to head home. So that took care of that idea.
  19. Your box is in the system. It went out this morning. If you need to make arrangements to receive a 6x6x6 pkg in your mail box, or have someone get it for you, do so now. It'll be there probably between Sat and Tues depending where you live. Hope you all enjoy each other's work.
  20. Hello LaPala, Welcome!! Happy you found us, It must be Google saved the best for last. You have some nice looking baits pictured. We'll be looking to hear more from you. Enjoy the site.
  21. Here we go guys. Got them all as of today. Nice looking Plastic's Now to get this Auction figured out. I'll work on that after I get these in the mail and on the way to you guys. It's been fun. I want to thank you all for making this swap a success. You will all receive a 6x6x6 box in the mail. The styrofoam is free.
  22. Hello Striperknight, This will be our first Fly swap and when it gets underway, we will have a set of rules to follow. The swap hasn't been given much thought at this point due to other swaps coming to a close at this point of time. We are shooting for the late fall as things slow down for everyone. Stay tuned.
  23. Looks pretty good to me, seems like you are on the right track. One big problem is you need to get your dot dot dit dit and dash's right in your URL. J ust edit your post and change your URL to look like this. http://www.xflyz.com Then everyone will go visit and You will be on your way. It looks good. Good luck to you Chuck. George
  24. I was in the last jig swap we had and the stuff those guys made were wonderful. Good colors, good paint, nice hair on the jigs, Slick looking and cool action on the jigs. All in all some pretty impressive looking tackle. I'm sure the tackle on this swap will be as good and maybe even better. BUT you haven't seen the Soft Plastic these guys have put out. I have! If it were to be a contest, I bet these Soft Plastics could bring a pretty price. There are some really nice looking baits here. But there again, we don't need to put one up against the other. What ever money is raised will go towards a good cause. I think it's admirable of you guys to put your baits in the auction and what ever it brings will be appreciated I'm sure.
