Thanks. I had a few students help me get started, we are trying to get the scanner figured out. We get a decent scan but the sides are not aligning up correctly.
-
A friend has a cnc BUT I need the molds I want to make in CAD.
How / what is the best / quickest way to learn CAD? Is there a program that is easier to learn? I really need to learn and do this.
Also any cheap scanning services?

Anyone willing to offer some advice on making new molds for a spin caster? I am able to get the jig I want in a CAD drawing and milled, but my question is how do I turn that into a spincasting mold. (Ive only use "standard" jigs in molds before)
If i just have the shape drawn and milled into one solid shape how do I account for the hook?
PM me if you want.

Anyone who does use createx could you let me know your process? Jans net craft has additives and talks about multi layers. Is it just a primer - paint - and top coat?
-
Thanks for the info guys.
I'm really looking for a wide range of colors and thats why the created is appealing. This is mostly for small brass blades and powder coating won't work ... for what I'm trying to do.
I see some of these great lakes / salmon companies that paint spoons with some great colors. I guess thats more of what I want. Been searching on line all day. Depending on who you talk to you get 5000 different answers. lol

I am looking for paints for spinner blades and jig heads. I have used Dick Nite's paints in the past, I need more colors though. I don't want to use powder coating or nylon.
Createx can it be used? Pros and cons?
Any pics?
Other brands?
Thanks,

I am looking for a company that can print heavy card stock for me. The kind you would see on the back of a blister pack. I need it for the jigs I sell. I want to staple them onto it, so they can be torn off of the card and purchased individually. I can't find any local printers that can do haevy enough stock.
Thanks,
Keith

Do a search for Partridge hook company, they have the longest hooks (shank) out there, but they are not cheap. Sorry, but I forget the name / style.

Yea, but I know a lot of shops that sell them and they say that when they are returned, they are done so because they are chipped. It happens because guys try to put size 24 or smaller in, and put it up at the very tip.
I think it has something to do with the tempering / hardening of the jaws, and the very strong gripping power.
Bottom line I think they are the best and easiest to use design out there. You can go from #8 to #2/0 with just a squeeze.

Hey guys, I carry and sell the Royale vises. I can say that EVERYONE who has used them loves them. The biggest reasons are they hold just as well, and they are CHEAP! I know some guys who put over 1,000 dozen through them with no problems.
I can tell you what the differences are:
1. The knobs do loosen up on them.
2. They do not easly grip #20 or smaller hooks, or at least as the Regals do
3. No warranty
Otherwise the problems with them are the same as a Regal
If you try to tie too small of hooks, #22 #24 and put them too close to the edge of the jaw they MIGHT chip
When I go to shows, I take one and demonstrate the holding strength by putting a #8 streamers hook in it and breaking the hook off WITHOUT the tip of the hook ever moving!

Thanks Rich, my time is staring to become limited and I would like to have some one help with my casting.

Hey check this out! This is a video shot from an OBX fishing chart boat, about 1 mile out.
Do you think you'd need a steel leader?
What kind of finish do you use for this type of lure...steel?

Led,
No offense what so ever, I call them "inspired by Regal", but to my buddies I call them knock offs.
I have seen a lot of them out there, and know about 10 companies that will make them, but I have seen a lot of junk ones. I also sell wholesale flies, and I give them to some of my tyers to use. They love them, for how easy they are to use and adjust, one guy actually bought 5...one for work (desk drawer) one for camp, etc.

I use and sell the Regal knock offs, and you do have to watch where you get the from, some are real junk.
I have some tiers who have tied 500+ dozen flies and they just love them, espically for the price. There is one complaint though, and they same complain with the Regal's...if you try to tie VERY small hooks, size 24 or smaller, they can chip. This is beacuse you have to put the hook in the very tip of the jaws. Good part most guys don't tie that small, and the chips are very small and won't effect your other hooks when tying.
As for the range of hooks, I have a "standard" and "midge" version of the same vise. The midge goes from about a 1/0 to 22. The standard goes from about a 4/0 to 16. Those are just some guidelines I go by, and they hold the hooks very well. Whenever some one is interested in buying one I put a Mustad hook, about size 10, in it so they can see the tip of the hook, and start bending the hook until it breaks. The hook tips have yet to ever move, and I bend the hook front to back, not left to right. I have never tried it with any 1/0 or larger hooks, but your thread will break before it moves.
Hope this helps.

I have both, started off with Boggs, and moved on to Hagen's, I like the Hagens better. It is easier for me to use. Nothing wrong with Boggs, I just prefer the Hagen's, I think it worth the extrta $.

I am looking for someone to draw up a custom mold ( do-it style) for me. I have some one to cut it, if you aren't able to. Anyone know who can do this? Any ideas on cost?
