  2. The first distinction that should be made is that crafting lures of any quality & making a living/money doing so are separate. In answer to your question, you can if you are willing to sacrifice, make decisions and to be a risk taker. In order to reach that goal of lure crafting for a living, you need to fully understand is that it requires diligent, hard work & a very savvy business mind.
  3. For repaints, we use to operate on the $20/ hr concept. The huge majority of repaints did not require a full hour of "hands on it" from start to finish. The typical cost worked out to $10-12 a lure. That included everything from prep to clear to out the door. For extensive repairs, oversized or jointed lures you could count on additional time and product that pushed the price up to $15-17.

    Prodigy crank

One of my favorite lures to fish & to build: coffin billed, wooden, scaled, Prodigy crankbait in a fairly traditional shad pattern.
  5. ...and folks ask why wooden lures come with a higher price tag ... the pics sums that up.
  6. I'd rec'd styrene, less expensive and it contours nicely in a VF.

    Craw

Milia, that's a good question with a very simple answer: round head push pins/ needle,.... inexpensive, durable, and effective. Create a round socket using a rounded burr of the same diameter, clip the needle in 1/2 w/ wire cutters, paint the eye (if needed), push the pin into the socket at the correct angle= craw eye, piece of cake...good luck. Finding a flexible, durable, & textured material to serve as antennae was a challenge however.
  16. I bought a floater for my brother as a Christmas present. When it arrived it stared at me in the package & I had to test drive it. As a lure maker by trade, it is worth every penny. It kicks a very nice "V" wake and is effortless to fish, exceptionally realistic.

    Craw

Not a thru wire & just a "typical" lip slot, extends to about the 2nd ridge along the back. If you look close on the side, you can see the slot where it was carved and painted over.

    Craw

Thx for enjoying the lure fellas. Re: time, it took much longer to locate decent anatomical pics of craws than it did to draw, carve and paint. Used a combo of micro knives, skew & bevel chisels, and foredom to carve it. The latest version(s) has several improvements to the shape. Thx again.

  23. We have never found them locally in SS and the correct size. How many do you need and in what size? Glad to help.
  24. Bob is correct about losing much of the visual detail as you head towards the tip of the blank. It was a nice effect however on the lower third to half of the blank, especially with a contrasting paint on the upper third...re: clear, after sampling multiple clears, I believe it was U-40 (aka Permagloss) that we discovered to offer the best qualities that we were after.
