  1. If I can buy large doubles, why can't I buy small doubles?Split rings are last century.Doubles can face either way and are on and off in seconds. All I want is no.2-6x permasteel finish VMC.But I'am not holding my breath.
  2. Hi all, Can anyone tell me how to post pics on new threads?
  3. Check if you can buy a double small enough. Then clip straight onto lure,no split ring required. My 2cents. that's 4cents worth of advice so far, Good Luck, Barramundi
  4. Hi Hahawai, If you are using "silicone j" r.t.v. by Dow Corning;upon release you should see a flash line the thickness of a human hair.I don't use a mold release agent.I simply spray white automotive laquer on the inside of the mold before injecting.Upon release the paint adheres to the foam and not the rubber, giving me a white undercoat to paint over.Colours come up better on a white background. Also the foam should be self skinning after curing; that is a hard plastic outer surface with a honeycombed inner core.If you sand through this outer skin you expose the inner core making it impossible to paint without using putty. Some days I pour up to 50 lures so I can't afford to sand putty each one.Silicone J is expensive but it's the best. 5. Hi Artbrush, The rubber I'am using is made by Dow Corning and is called 'Silicone J'.I can't find a data sheet to give you the shore hardness but I suggest you go to the Dow Corning site where there will be info on the product.Yes most split molding processes require a cleaning of the seam line after de-molding.The company I deal with measures foam density as 'free rise density' in this case it's 450kg/m3.A urethane dealer should be able to do the conversion to imperial. regards Barramundi
  6. Hi Fishguy, I'am currently using a two-shot mold made of silicone J.I've never used a mold release agent. To speed up the process I paint the inside of the mold with a white automotive acrylic lacquer. After 30min.I demold and the paint sticks to the lure not the silicone. Then they're ready to paint any colour I want.Don't give up.I pulled my hair out for six months, but now it's routine.By the way keep an eye on the 'Outdoor Channel'they did an article about fishing North Australia and a section on me and my lures about 2 weeks ago. Good luck Barramundi
  7. Hi Guys, I'am in complete accord with you.I recently purchased 1000 V.M.C no.2 dyna-steel trebles and found one that didn't have a third leg.I immediately slipped it on a lure[no split rings and no pliers] you're right;Ifound it to be very hard to snag with the hooks turned upwards.Feeling pretty happy with my new find I contacted the local V.M.C. dealer but was eventually informed that no,they don't make them and are not likley to in the future. This I find strange because they'd be easier to manufacture.Anyhow if anyone knows who makes them I be interested to here from you. Regards Barramundi
  8. Hi all, Has anyone out there used or is currently using clip on trebles? I've seen some V.M.C.model 4650 on the 'Stamina'web site but they are a bronze finish.I see a lot of newcomers having any amount of trouble trying to use split rings and pliers. If they are as strong as ordinary trebles I'd like to give them a go but I'am having trouble locating them in Austalia. Regards Barramundi
  9. Try seaching under "vacuum metalizing" This is the process used for giving plastics a chrome or gold finish. As in Goldbomber. Barramundi
  10. Hi Dave, Iam also using a gravity fed touchup gun.The stuff I use is called "pour on gloss" and has the viscosity of honey. Barramundi
  11. Hi all, I've been spraying epoxy for about 6 months now and you'll still need a drying wheel.Just make sure you use epoxy thinners. Also it's easy to miss bits so I allways spray twice. It still only uses half the amount compared to dipping. Barramundi
  12. Hi Hellraiser, I thin mine with epoxy thinners then spray my lures.Make sure you give them 2 coats. Barramundi
  13. Hi Iceman, It all depends on how many you want to make.If it's a dozen I suppose bondo is ok but if you want production runs bordering on a small business then Silicone J is the one. There's acouple of disadvantages though. It's bloody expensive and you need a vacuum chamber.Iv'e used a two shot mold for nearly 3years now and pop out 2 lures every 20 minutes. You just separate the mold give it a twist and out they pop.You don't need any mold release, however I spray the inside of the mold with white auto lacquer so they come out undercoated ready to paint. Good luck Barramundi
  14. Hi all, Has anyone out there used featherlite for hardbaits.I'am currently using urethane foam which is ok but using it in the tropics does pose a few problems. Barramundi
  15. Hi Husky, Darkstar is not having ago at us.When you get the lip design right have them laser cut.In Australia it cost me $40 per 100 for 2mm. thick poly-carbonate lips with a 6mm. hole in them. When the foam expands around them they don't come out. This is one of my major sales advantages.I also run a 1.2mm stainless full harness wire with 4x V.M.C. hooks.A customer recently brought one back that he used on Cape York.Right up there in mongrel country.Anyhow it lured 2 barracuda 5 trevally 2 estuary cod and a mangrove jack. The poor bugger's got a lot of denture holes in it but is still serviceable so I gave him a new one and use his as a demo at the local markets where I have a stall. And mate if you come down, you've got to fish Weipa. It's right on the northern tip of Oz.Just punch it in to "google"and you'll see what I mean.
