  1. Rolas Its cheaper to buy the Bass Minnows than make them yourself. By the time you get plastics, colors etc. Certainly cheaper in time. I have a couple of plaster two sided bass minnow molds and while they pour well, its actually fairly time consuming to pour these with two colors in the double sided mold. Given the failure rate in poors not filling the tails etc. Slimline senko's do catch bream but not nearly with as much impact as the berkley bass minnow has had on the tournament scene.
  2. 2 Piece Plaster injection Mold is very easy for this. Tutorial Details at end of post, I use a 2 inch grub for the molds. Matt http://www.tackleunderground.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=3480
  3. I've finished the plaster injector mold tutorial. Let me know what you think. Theres plenty of room to elaborate, Ill provide injecting instructions some other time this week. Tutorial Can be Found here. http://users.bigpond.net.au/mjc/tutorial.htm
  4. If you have a hard master like wood , fimo etc. I always make my original single cavity mold out of RVT, pour a couple of good quality copies out of the RVT master and then use those baits to make multi cavity plaster molds. I would have thought that a devcon coated wood master would pull out of plaster ok. When I drop my masters into the plaster they are actually glued to devcon coated plaster pour and/or injection hole inserts so I don't have to cut this stuff out the mold later. These inserts allways pull out clean so I guess the devcon coated wood should too. Im not sure if you guys use simple plaster of paris but I've been using some of the US Gypmsum companies Hydrastone its sets like a rock literally, this stuff can be slow cooked in the oven or microwave and the mold can be ready for sealing the same day you create it.
  5. Ill take some photo's Mojo and put together the instructions. Making the injector molds is actually very easy if you take the time to make "inserts" for injection points and filling reserves. Very little cutting or modifying other than coating required.
  6. If anyones interested in a 2 part plaster mold tutorial let me know it would be fairly lengthy but thats what happens when you effectively throw away 6 or so kilo's of plaster getting it right, I've got free pouring mold instructions and injectable versions that use the netcraft $10 hand injectors.
  7. I had the same problem GA I stopped using vaseline and started using canola oil cooking spray. Spray it on and let it sink in, pour, 95% less bubbles.
  8. I use a Canola Oil Spray as my release agent on plaster molds. Spray it and let it sink in for 10 or so minutes, no marks and almost no bubbles in the plaster. The plaster absorbs the oil and gives the mold a softer feel until it dries out overnight. Perfect separation, sometimes to perfect I've dropped the lower half of a mold onto the patio more than once.
  9. Bob heres some information of the plastisol vapours from another thread I was involved in some time ago. In Australia and a number of other countries its workplace law to use a Certified Organic Vapor respirator when involved in this product. Chloroethylene or Vinyl Chloride Monomer Its considered a class 1 carcinogen which means that repeated exposure has been known to be cancerous. Its interesting that some of you fellows fell a little ill, light headed, head ache etc since the short term symptoms of exposure are. irritation, nausea, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, heach ache, drowsiness, diziness, disorientation, joint pain, loss of coordination , hearing loss and respiratory disorders. Long term problems - impotence, bluish skin, blood disorders, liver damage, cancer. a Half Mask or Full Mask Respirator with Approved Organic Vapour Cartridges is essential.
  10. I have a mistake color that I can't remake (or is that remistake) that outfishes every other color by 3 to 1 in one particular lake here in Aus. I think its because I burnt the plastic aswell changing the color. Its always the way.
  11. Its because its elastomeric gel and its actually designed to withstand those heats and elements deliberatly since its original use I believe is as an insulator etc.
  12. Thanks Tubeman I replaced the cartridges today, I haven't poured yet but I'll see how it goes, Im not sure how good a fit my mask is so I might look into one with the intakes behind, makes more sense.
  13. Bassifier not sure about the ebay masks but from research here in Aus Organic Vapour catridges are pretty simple to obtain and not overly expensive. Often they are marketted as gardening spray masks/ pesticide masks etc. Organic vapour I believe is the entry level vapour mask, not particularly demanding and often the catridge contains a particle mask aswell. I searched at 3m through there cartridge recommendations based on chemical content and they specifically listed a synonym for the chemical as only requiring a generic OV catridge and 3m appears to have specific cartridges for an enormous amount of chemicals etc. Worth noting however is that the levels of the monomer available in most products has been signficantly reduced and the case studies where done on PVC workers on the old pre legislation exposure levels (US,Aus and some other countries) . From what I read it was something that you needed to be in contact with for a large amount of time regularly to see the negative side effects. Tubeman I was wondering if the smell was just that smell, its possible that the mask blocks the nasties but still lets the smell through , since the smell and smoking appears to be directly related to the heat and stabiliser and the mononmer is odourless.
  14. Just a followup on the respirator issue. At least working for a checmicals company has some benefits. I talked to our Healtha and Safety people who directed me to numerous MSDS reports, studies etc on the carcinogenic agent found in PVC vapour. its called Chloroethylene or Vinyl Chloride Monomer Its considered a class 1 carcinogen which means that repeated exposure has been known to be cancerous. Its interesting that some of you fellows fell a little ill, light headed, head ache etc since the short term symptoms of exposure are. irritation, nausea, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, heach ache, drowsiness, diziness, disorientation, joint pain, loss of coordination , hearing loss. Long term problems - impotence, bluish skin, blood disorders, liver damage, cancer. The recommendation from Tubeman is correct, a Half Mask or Full Mask Respirator with Approved Organic Vapour Cartridges is essential.
  15. Tubeman Im assuming the MSDS recommends the Organic Vapour filter. Does it mention specifically any other special cartridge requirements. Id be curious to know if you can still smell the plastisol slightly when wearing your mask. I have a half face mask and I can occassionally smell small amounts of the plastic. Im wondering if the filters not effectively blocking the smell is it still blocking the PVC vapour ?
