  1. My all time favorite style of fishing is deepcranking. The deeper the better. All day - chunking and winding. Wear out some reels and forearms. But as we all know about 20 ft is about it for a floating bait. At various times in the past I tried Bagley Dredges (sinking lipped plug), a few others and lipless cranks. Never found any I really liked that worked well down deep (20+). Thats when I finally decided to make one. Most of my deep fish are at 15 to 25 feet plus. The lipless balsa lure - ProBalsa Shad - is heavy - up to 2 ounces. Will outthrow any lipped bait by far and thump hard. It'll also stay in the strike zone longer easier. Various colors, shapes, sizes and riggings. These tools have opened up a whole new world . . . Now no fish is too deep to reach easily and effectively.
  2. It is a No. 100 Heddon Dowagiac Minnow made from 1905 to about 1943. Yours was made from 1905 to 1915 due to the cup hardware. The color is fancy sienna or brown crackleback. This early 3 hook minnow sinks (underwater model) and is one of the most collected lures. They are the epitome of lure collecting. Clean lightly and find a beat up model to replace the eyes. Current collector value - Excellent condition $200 - 300 Good " $100- 150 Average " $50 - 75 or less If you have any more questions please ask - I identify, buy, sell and appraise lures, reels, rods, tackleboxes, catalogs, artwork etc
  3. The short answer is yes. Esp. if you want it. Stick with it. Although your pocketbook like mine may actually be lower than at the beginning, you are now closer to success. I, like Coley, sold my first lures (sinking wooden baits) recently. It was good but not near as great as the day my brother Kent field tested them and caught 8 - 10 bass up to 4 lbs. Since then he and others have used these tools to help win tournaments. And they keep coming back for more. And Seminole hit it squarely on the head, "If it was easy . . . " Hobby "versus" business or hobby "as a" business? This age old question can only be answered by you alone. For now, I gonna heed someone's advice I wish I had listened to a long time ago, "Do what you want and the money will follow". Prudence - skill and good sense - is a given.
  4. I've learned a lot from this site and want to thank everyone - esp. those who take time to post answers to newcomers questions. My hobbies include bass, cat and striper fishing, lure making and collecting old fishing tackle-esp. lures. Have done a lot of research and once published a magazine on collecting antique fishing tackle. Will be happy to identify, appraise & locate old fishing tackle and answer questions in this field.
