  1. I have used and like the wire used to make valcano craft projects. Its a wire that can be purchased at most craft stores, such as Hobby Lobby. You have to be careful because it will scratch the paint job if you get to rough with it but it molds around the lure great. I paint alot of plastic crankbaits and I can make one form and paint a bunch of lures with it and it just sits on the lure.
  2. I use a campbell Hausfeld 2 gallon air compressor that I purchased at Wal-Mart for 80 bucks. It has a bulit on Reg and it is light, quite and will build up to 100 psi which gives you plenty of other uses for this little compressor. Such as airing up tires or using brad nailers. All I had to do is add a water trap to the compressor which you can get at lowe's, Harbor freight or dixieart. I paint at my kitchen table and the compressors is so quite it doesn't bother anyone else in the house, plus its small and can be placed under the sink. I shoot only acrlic because i do paint in the house. I mainly shoot createx or Apple Barrel craft paint and thin it from a recipe that Blackjack posted a few weeks back (THANKS a bunch Blackjack it really has helped alot). I am not sure about laquer or enamel brands i will let more knowledgeable people comment on that. Happy painting and good luck

    glitter

I have add glitter to my 1st coat of devcon to get the look I want. I only wanted the top half of my lure to have glitter I used regular Devcon to epoxy the bottom then I mixed a little glitter in and coated the top. I was pleased with the results.
  4. Thanks VMAXX for the panty hose tip. i will barrow a pair of my wifes in the morning . I try to clean my brush but i havn't bought a good cleaning kit for it yet. I haven't been airbrushing long maybe a month and a half. I got alot of projects i still want to do such as a good turn table for drying the epoxy. Gets kinda old setting thier for 30+ mins move baits back and forth but it is well woth it I have never had some much fun witha hobby (besides fishing).
  5. Thanks allstate48 I will give the pressure thing a try. I have been setting mine to about 18-20 lbs , so I will crank it up a little and keep messing with it some. I would like to give laquer a try, but I won't until spring when I can move my equipment back out into the building. I heard it was much easier to shoot just harder to clean up, but it would be worth it for some better looking baits. Thanks
  6. I also have been having some trouble with Createx. I just pour and shoot the stuff. Some paints such as black I can paint a line and hold a continuous line, but red Createx will sputter and that drives me nuts . I heard it was pour and shoot, so I haven't tried thinning it any. At 3 bucks a bottle and a 45 minute drive to get more I have not really wanted to mess with it much. Could that be my problem that I need to thin it some or is it like Skeeter says just a pain to mess with? I really don't want to shoot laquer right now because my building is not heated, so I have be using strictly acrlic paints. What other brands do some of you guys recommend? Thanks and have a Merry Christmas
  7. Thanks for the cool tip about the hobby paint Blackjack. I have been using Createx paints, but I have been having trouble mixing some colors that I want and at about 3 bucks a bottle it can get kinda expensive mixing the colors i want. Agian thanks for the mixing information! I have tried to thin hobby paint but just never could get it to spray in an even flow.
  8. Nevermind I just seen the Screw Eye post just below and that answered my question.
  9. I am new to this forum and only posted a couple of times but I have been reading alot of the post for quite sometime now. I have enjoyed alot of the information that I have read here and it also has got me started on painting crankbaits. I haven't yet carved and finished a wooded crankbait yet but have been painting alot of plastic ones. I am now in the process of learning how to carve lures and hopefully will have some great conversations with alot of you in the near future. As littlebear was saying I am also impressed with the quailty of craftsmanship that some of you guys have with your lures. Hopeful with time and patience I can beable to make some fine lure with my own hands. Have a great day
  10. Hello, I am new to carving crankbaits from Balsa and I had a qusetion concerning this cool hobby. I don't want to catch a Bass on a lure I carved only to have it to give and lost the fish and mess up something I put some much time into. Is it best to use a wire form in Balsa Crankbaits or can I just get away with screweyes that are epoxied in atleast half way into the body? Thanks
  11. Thanks Troy I have sent you an Email about one of your styles you sell.
  12. Hello all, First of all I want to say that this site is awesome and i have been reading alot of the posts for the last month to get an Idea of what i needed to start painting lures. My question is I am not into carving crankbaits at this time so I have been painting plastic crankbaits that I bought from Luremaking and Jannsnetcraft. I was wanting to know if thier are anymore sites out thier that sells plastic topwater and crankbaits? Thanks
