  1. I prefer to use scent instead as the salt will suck it up and then let it out in the water.
  2. Mike; I guess we can call you Nick Nack too, lol.
  3. I used water purifier salt; it's a lot cheaper than pickling salt which is what I used to use. I just bought a 30 lb. bag for $3.00 CDN.
  4. This thing is driving me crazy. Can't leave it alone. Helps to get lots of work done, lol.
  5. I know thw name Pop, but I just can't place it. I'll check around for you.
  6. Maybe we should be making use of the classified page. Is that going to be up any time soon? Mike what about an old coffee pot warmer? The heating platform could be used with a large aluminum pot to keep the plastic warm.
  7. I understood the part about the larger volumn, but it still takes equal time. I also would be concerned about color separation with that.
  8. Seems to me if you pre-mix color recipes or do them as you would normally, it is still going to take the same amount of time. Or am I missing something? :
  9. Here's a for instance for you all. If you look in LC's catalog, you will find a 3 1/2" zipper grub. I designed that about 6 years ago and got Dave to make several molds for me. The next thing I know it's in his catalog. So, I'm in Canada and he's in the States; what can I do? I just let it go. Now I take the time to make my own molds and go about my own business. Mark it up to experience. I also have to add that I don't hold a grudge against LC. I still buy my colors and glitter from them and they give me good service.
  10. Why don't you make your mold out of resin? It works great and the definitions are much sharper. Also you don't have to seal it.
  11. Just do a search for it. If it is still on the site you will get it.
  12. Salt is salt is salt. Just find the purest salt you can. I've been using salt for a water softner it's 99.8 % pure. Just pass it through the grinder to get it to the texture you want.(powder or grains). No matter how pure the salt is it will always turn the baits"frosty". You just can't get away from it. You may have to increase the amount of color to get the shade you want. You will never get the bait crystal clear with salt added in the plastic. The more salt the more frosty it will get.
  13. The scrambled egg finish is really easy. It's done with oil-based paints. No two lures will be alike. You fill a can with water to a depth depending on the length of the lure you want to paint. You then gently pour several different colors of oil paint into the water. It will float on top of the water. You then, in one motion, dip the lure all the way into the mixture and pull it back out.( You have to do this gently and smoothly.) Your lure will then have the "marbled" effect. Hang it up to dry and then clear coat it. Good luck. If you master this; post some pictures.
  14. That is similar to what I did. I glued the blades in a piece of plywood and I use a large dowel to roll the tubes over the blades. I can cut about a dozen tubes at one time. I posted a picture of it here some time ago.
  15. There are plenty of posts here about them. Just do a search for " tube cutters". Also some pictures.
  16. All kinds of formulas in the sticky at the top of the forum page.
  17. Post pictures of these baits and it will be easier to know what to tell you.
  18. A while ago I had a customer order a couple hundred completely clear(no glitter at all) flukes from me. I thought he was nuts, silly me.
  19. How about "ball-headed ghost" or "bald-headed ghost".
  20. The same colors over here work as well (greens and browns) but we use 5 and 6" baits more than 3 and 4". Smokes work very well too. I make a natural worm color, called blue worm, that works very well at times. I guess a smallie is a smallie everywhere, lol.

    Respirators

I poured for a couple of years with no mask and like you I would get a bad headache every once and awhile. My brother was home from out west on summer and he came into the garage when I was pouring and flipped out.(He worked with chemicals of different types) He made me go to town and buy a full face mask (high end) cost me $325 CDN. The reason for the full face is that if the pyrex explodes your eyes and face will be protected.(this actually happened to me later on). The question for all of us is what are eyes and health worth to you?
  22. If you want to match Yammies cinnimon start with LC's natural. That sample looks like it might have some violet highlite in it.
  23. When I pour 2 colors I pour the first color then before it totally sets(as long as it won't run) I put the mold together. Then with the mold tipped at about 30 degrees with the first color on top, I pour the second color. I leave the mold standing while I do the others.
