  1. Shorty's will only sell in 1000's. Captain Hooks is the retail division of Shorty's and will sell in 100's.
  2. I have tried to modify several molds with a dremel. They usually don't come out looking very good, but the baits are functional. I use a ball cutter on the dremel. I usually cut one side of the mold like I want it, then pour some lead in it. Take the casting out of the mold and set in in the un-modified side. Trace around it with a fine tip sharpie or a scribe. Start cutting on it a little, then pour another bait. compare the two sides of the bait to see where you need to cut more out of the mold. Keep cutting and pouring until you get the two side as close as you want them. Be patient.
  3. It is a crude solution, but it will work. Take masking tape and start laying down strips of it on each side of the mold with the ends of it hanging out where the hook will be. Once you build up the tape thick enough, it will hold the hook in place. I use masking tape because the adhesive seems to resist heat better than duct tape.
  4. Where is your shop located Bill? I live outside of Corydon, IN.

    Wobble More/Less

The location of the line tie and the angle of the bill will affect the action of a crankbait more than any other factors. With everything else the same (bill size, bill angle, body shape, etc) you will get the most wobble with the line tie right where the bill and body meet. The down side is the bait may not run right at all if the bill is too long or the angle of the bill is too straight. The more downward the angle of the bill is the more wobble you will get if the line tie and other factors are the same. Most of the shallow crankbaits I make have the bill at a 45 degree angle to the body, and the line tie comes out of the body just above the bill. On deeper running crankbaits, the angle is anywhere from straight out of the body to 30 degrees downward with the line tie coming out of the bill.
