  1. Fantastic....and in 2 days.... Wow.. Just curious what the topcoat is on this baby.
  2. It does get clearer than that.....always use Envirotex.... that is as clear as it gets! Aint that right Richoh and Chip...???
  3. My point was that I get zero...nada....nothing as far as bubbles when using Etex... I know how to use it properly.(Its the perfect finish). I cannot get this kind of finish using Devcon. If someone can lead me to the same quality finish using Devcon.... I will consider trying it again. That is what I am looking for,,,,, zero tolerance as far as clarity yellowing and bubbles. I already have found the answer....ETEX. The only drawback...drying time...and I have a drying wheel... so that is not really a problem.. Can the same be acheived with Devcon??? That is what I am asking? I have seen numerous baits finished with epoxys different brands and the results are all the same.. The only advantage I can see is the drying time and the availability due to WalMart being everywhere...Of course anyone on this site has the ability to purchase products via the internet...and that would allow them to get ETEX. You can flame a lure with Etex... bubbles will dissipate and then wait and reflame again in a half hour and the finish will be perfectly clear...Even with the Etex having just been mixed and full of bubbles. It will clear itself right before your eyes! I use mapp gas... really quick passes.
  4. I would really love to see devcon on a bait that is finished correctly. I cant imagine devcon drying without air bubbles..... I have tried it in the past and the air bubbles will not disipate. How are you applying devcon to eliminate these air bubbles? Or are you just living with them? I cant tolerate air bubbles. Of course pictures wont show me what I need to see...so who has a bait they want to sell....finished with devcon with the best possible application of this stuff? I must see the perfection of Devcon.
  5. Nice bait U63405! Great colors!
  6. I like seeing the foil on my baits.....if I would have used Devcon "Glue" you wouldnt see any reflection....my paint isnt that great....I take pride in my foil jobs... Thanks for the compliment. I did use devcon 5 minute for the bill though ....if that makes you feel better. LOL
  7. Thats envirotex boys! Aint that right Chip???? Black Grape Avacado
  8. Devcon is already yellow when it dries... Envirotex will not yellow... If you are finishing foil baits where the finish must be perfectly clear to get the most out of your foil job... there is no comparison.... Devcon cures quick and if I were to paint all of my bait or baits I might consider using it. For clarity....ETEX is the only answer.
  9. If your bait cuts the mustard the anglers will buy it. If it doesnt you will go broke. Knowledgeable anglers know the difference in quality baits. As far as knock offs.. Look at the Madman Craw Tube......anything else out there like it. Yes. Do they work as well. Yes. How can that be????? Thats America baby!
  10. Castability??? Can or does the 14 A cast like a pointer... the internal weighting and chamber of the pointer are going to be difficult to beat. They cast like a bullet into the wind.
  11. 5 bucks for a set of 5 brushes and no postage......for all that are interested.... the supply shop should carry painting equipment for the automotive industry... fyi
  12. Does anybody know where you can get a cheap set of brushes for cleaning the inside workings of a airbrush? Dick Blick has a set for 30 dollars.....sounds a little pricey......?? looking for a less expensive alternative....
  13. After painting the back and the belly. Before you go 1 step farther you need to clearcoat. Once clearcoated you paintjob is secure and water will take the dot or smear away without ruining your entire paint job. A hint for dots....... I have been using Qtips for quite some time to apply my eyes and dots. Just soak the cotton and twirl it in the paint and 1 good push and you have a round dot. Good luck
  14. Although I have never purchased a Dbait, I have purchased the Weebait. This is the bait that Gary Dees copied and marketed the proper way. The Weebaits are still for sale in the Cincinnati area and in my opinion have a better scale pattern. The purpose of the weighting on these baits is more than just balance and a upright stance. I am going through this same problem with my own baits and have come to the realization that if you go light you can always add by drilling a small hole in the belly. If you go to heavy about the only thing you can do is try to lighten up your terminal equipment. Split rings, hooks. You can only get so light by doing this. Drill a 1/16 th hole a 1/2 inch and you can add about 5 number 9 shot from a shotgun shell. cover with epoxy. Repaint and you are back in business. Or just add another coat of devcon. Nothing wrong with sinking baits. The countdown Rapala has been catching fish for years!
  15. What kind of volume or quantity did you get that cost 50 dollars? These must be gallons... you can get the stuff at any craft store around Ohio for under 15 dollars for 10 or 12 oz. Just curious about the size you got and where you got it from??

    Help????

Thanks to all for the nice compliments. I have been toying around making baits since about 7 years ago. I havent made any in the last 3 years until now. I am planning on making about 20 of these guys this weekend. I should get somewhere around 75% complete by Sunday night. The most difficult part is the pouring of the lead. Lead is poured directly around the thru wire belly hook hanger. Hot lead and Balsa wood are not the greatest combination. I have looked at using lead shot and other means of weighting the bait, however you cant get the same bang for the buck doing it any other way....at least not that I have found yet. It would take almost 60 pieces of #9 lead shot to equal the weight I have in each bait. These baits are neutrally bouyant (suspend). It is too dificult to create a cavity inside of the bait that would allow for this much shot and glue combination. The poured lead is more dense (no airpockets). For now I will stick to this....unless someone has a better idea. Thanks again. Mike

  19. Which needle is the best to spray Createx colors thru? What pressure are you all spraying at and how do you prevent runs if spraying at higher pressures? My problem is that the acrylic paints seem to dry quickly and cause the gun to not work properly. Advise please...... Beginner at airbrushing..........
  20. Try Bubinga.....this stuff is twice as hard as oak. It should stand up to any Peacock bass out there.
