  1. check out these split ring pliers. I havee the blue handled ones and think they are great. http://www.luremaking.com/catalogue/catalogue-index/catalogue-items/tools/split_ring_pliers.htm
  2. Don't use white foam bead board style insulation, it doesn't work. It melts into a big goey glob and doesn't harden even if you can get it to spread on youre lure. I poured some out on a board and after 36 ours it was still as soft as chewing gum. I'll have to try some of those packing peanuts this weekend.
  3. CJ, get some mild aluminum bar stock. you can "mill" a V shaped slot in each half with a router and sharp carbide tipped bit. To taper them or make them a little fatter in the middle set up a plywood jig to hold the bar stock at a slight angle. If you decide to use this route be sure to wear a full face mask as well as a tight fitting long sleeve shirt. Aluminum shavings are a lot sharper than sawdust and can cut you up fairly quick.

    Routers

Jed, What size lures are you building? You could rout a weight slot in a large blank prior to shaping the bodies but to try and round over the edges on a lure body would be asking for trouble. The router bit will grab the lure and toss it allowing your fingers to contact the bit. I personall would not use a router on anything smaller than a sturgen decoy. Most of the wood we use to make lues is soft enough a good sharp rasp will rond over the edges faster than you can set up a router anyway.
  5. Try a local trophy shop they often have shirts that they can order. also look up screen pinting and embroidery in your yellow pages.
  6. Do you have a jig saw? : glue or clamp a 35 mm film tube to an old dull blade insert your paint bottle with a couple of cotton balls start your saw at a slow speed and your mixing things up. it also helps to put 1 or 2 BB's in the paint bottle to act as mixing balls.
