  1. First, check out cavu's tutorial http://www.tackleunderground.com/index.php?page=10&mode=article&k=10 It may answer all your questions. However, If you don't cure the paint, it will chip ever time. What type of weights are you painting? If it's worm weights or egg type sinkers let me know and I'll explain how I do it.
  2. I'm thinking of trying a Rotisserie oven. May make keeping a steady flow of lures going easier. I'll post how it goes

    Do-it Molds?

Just wondering, How many pours do you get out of a DO-IT mold before it wears out? I have one I modified and have over 6,000 pours in. Still works fine, but is starting to show it's age.
  4. My brother's friend calls last night and says he has some lead for me. I ask them to put it in the garage as I'm working. Usually, they drop off a few lead pipes. I get home and open the door.... There sits a 3'x4' pile of PURE clean lead, about 500 +pounds. I about fainted, It's like Christmas
  5. Jonathan in-line or regular? For in-lines I use .031 but many use the .028. Quite a few guys ask for the R-bend or Looped spinnerbait wire in .051, but I don't like it above .045, the .051 is just too stiff and big for my tastes. Look at muskie spinners for ideas, good weight for your neck of the woods, but if your fishing the shallows you'll want a lighter head, usually no more than 1/2oz at the most. let me know if you've been to Fred's yet
  6. Has anyone tried perma-gloss? It would take several coats, but you could possibly dip the lure in it. It's 1-part amd works good on rods. just a thought... http://www.u-40.com/permagloss.html

Actually, I'm staying away from lexan lips. I thought about molding them in, but if I don't I can use the same molds with different angles and sizes. I'm working on a mini miter box for plugs. By using the 24k gold plated lip, I also get a lot of extra flash. Believe it or not, we often fish in 4-6" of water. You'd be surprised how big a redfish you'll catch that shallow. 8-10#ers are common.

    tuning help...

Here's my first attempt ever, a 2 1/2" plug modified for saltwater. It dives to the depth of less than 1 inch. It will sport 1 single hook. I designed it to run over the top of oyster bars. ignore the paint colors/job they were all I had on hand, and I don't have an airbrush yet. Thanks for your help Husky, and everyone else.

Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking now it may need more keel weight, as it's a expanding foam bait. I just got off work, so i'm going to do a little bathtub testing
  12. Glad to hear your okay. That happens more than you think. I've had it happen 3-4 times over the years. When I was teaching my brother to pour I kept telling him to wear safety glasses, being in his early 20's he thought I was FOS until some sweat dripped on an ingot and it exploded. Scares the @#% out of ya...
  13. I just started making some hard baits thanks to Husky. They come out of the mold great but when I put the lip on and test them they don't wobble like a store bought plug. They keep rocking from side to side (Like a rocking boat). The design is similar to a Yozuri SS minnow, with the lip almost vertical to keep the bait running as shallow as possible. I'm using metal as a lip material and it's rounded instead of square. Anyone have any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
  14. I've begun to outsell my ability to produce my lures, and am looking to start outsourcing work. Does anyone know where I can find a fishing related non-disclosure contract? I also have some stuff I don't want to get out until I can have a good supply in my distrubor's inventory, and would like a little signed piece of paper before I let anyone else test or see the baits. Thanks

    DIY Rattles

Thanks, I didn't want to re-invent the wheel. How are you using glass for rattles? I need to make some really large ones for saltwater topwater?
