  1. Try stuff that looks like the blue gill or smaller bass that live in the pond you're fishing. Mattlures makes an awesome bluegill bait in some super realistic colors. Any of the swimbaits in the 6-9" range in the baby bass colors should work also. You might get a bite only every 10,000 casts with the big baby bass imitators, but it'll be the kind of bite you want. If you can work up enough confidence to throw these monster baits you will not be disappointed.
  2. What do you guys think? It's a 7 footer rated 12-30, sounds like it has the right specs for a flipping rod without the extra 6 inches. Is that gonna hinder me in any way? Could a handle extension fix that if it does? The only reason I ask is because i can get one brand new for about half price. Thanks for any replies. Jake
  3. Thanks alot guys. I've got my stuff pretty much narrowed down thanks to your helpful advice. I have one more question though: what blank would you guys recommend for using with a small bait caster and 8 pound for fishing soft jerkbaits and light texas rigging? Thanks. Jake
  4. Ok, so here's the deal. For my b-day, I'm getting all custom rapped rods for my freshwater bass arsenal. I've got my spinnerbait blank lined up, but i need recomendations for the following: 1. Drop shot blank; mostly for 4-6 pound test 2. Crank bait blank; nice moderate bend for throw Shad Raps and Speed Traps. 3. Flipping stick blank; for 20 pound. Thanks in advance and tight lines. Jake
  5. What do you guys who make your own stuff do for rattles? Or is it a do without type thing? Thanks. Jake
  6. I haven't really tried anything yet, but I'm thinking of doing some cranks and spinnerbaits for doing the bay thing. I'm really interested in doing more of the freshwater stuff in the bay. I think a spot or turd roller would respond well to that stuff. I also want to make some dropshot baits for soft plastics. I have some custom colors in mind that i think would kick.
  7. I'm in the 909, the middle of the desert about and hour inland. LOL. Never been to SDFish but I'll check it out.
  8. Hello all, newbie to making my own stuff here. I saw a link on another site, thought I'd check it out, and already love it. Let me give you a little background info. My names Jake, I live in Southern California, and I just started fishing bass tournaments locally. I look forward to using the board frequently and getting some good advice from the masters. Jake
