  1. My problem has to be the day job which I can hardly do for thinkin of lures. I need space spray booth other things but the day job will have to go, do I believe in me ?can I make this work?
  2. I use the best thing to ever come outa the states 10' Portabote no garage no trailer carry down to the water open up jump in 3.5 hp and I'm off.
  3. Get yourself a carpenters marking gauge, no need for measuring, hold it at one side lightly mark, hold it at the other lightly mark, the middle is between the two marks, adjust press in and you also have a pilot hole.
  4. I'd say keep it just under belly button high.My bench is an old school desk teachers type, drawers either side space in middle for compressor 2 batons either end with another top fixed on them, giving me a handy space to use between tops. Good for fixing machines on and off quickly.
  5. Merry Christmas to one and all and may your lures do exactly what you want them to in the comming year
  6. The trick is net tight to the bait that way even I can do scales. The net your'e looking for comes like a stocking, used in packaging, to protect bottles curtian tracks etc. Look up www.aid-pack.co.uk (protective)
  7. If my spoon lure attracts pike like it attracted you lot I'd be well pleased. I really doubt that the pike will find an old spoon stuck into a bit of wood that interesting though like all anglers---I live in hope thanks for the kind comments JJ
  8. This site isnt only lures it's cultural you can learn things ------you wouldn't learn anywhere else, Idoubt if I could buy a book with all this info, isnt the web a wonder. here's one my old man left me before he went fishing in the sky. Out fishin A feller isn't thinkin mean Out fishin His thoughts somehow are mostly clean Out fishin He doesn't knock his fellow men Or harbour any grudges then A feller's at his finest when Out fishin The rich are comrades of the poor Out fishin All brothers of a common lure Out fishin The urchin with his pin and string Can chum with millionaire and king Vain pride is a forgotten thing Out fishin A feller gets a chance to dream out fishin He learns the beauty of a stream out fishin An he can wash his soul in air That isn't foul with selfish care an relish plain and simple fare Out fishin A feller's glad to be a friend out fishin A helping hand he'll always lend out fishin The brotherhood of rod and line An sky and stream is always fine Men come real close to God's desing out fishin A feller isn't plotting schemes out fishin He's only busy with his dreams out fishin His livery is a coat of tan His creed to do the best he can A feller always feels a man Out fishin
  9. As I stirred my coffee thinking what could I use to make a lip. Have also tried it out and --------it works
  10. Wish I was 14 starting out making lures, the missus says I act like it when I'm in the middle of some new exiting ( to me) invention. What Jed's telling you seems good advice I'd just differ on the band saw get yourself a GOOD scroll saw less danger and less space and you could also finish your lures with two part laquer,no need for machines turning to dry.Lastly I'd say go make friends with someone who has a router table so when you've cut your shapes he could (JUST) round of the edges for you. good luck hope you know what your letting yourself in for.
  11. captbob said an axis where the head moves different from the tail. After picking a proffesor of fluids blau blau brains at the local uni this is the idea I've come up with just wish I had the time to do it.I make a flat jigjointed lure which if may say moves pretty good with an anchor point at the nose. Now if I make two anchor points top and bottom a third of the way back on the first piece triangulating with wire trace to the line I've changed the axis point. This thing is really gonna move------isnt it.
  12. aye Coley yons a canny bit o verse wir no that fair apert efter awe ye kin come ower here ony time ye' ll feel at hame.
  13. I use stone chip then primer seems to work good. Years ago I played around with PEG not for lures, poly---- e--- glu--- it looks like bits of candle wax dissolved in water. Place the wood in it and by some scientific means it penetrates and replaces any moisture. Once dried it petrifies the wood.It is used in underwater archaeology when they bring old timber out of the water.I would look into it again but I don't have the space---I'm sure it's a great sealer though it will change the density etc
  14. This has got me thinking dreaming it is Sunday I have had a well deserved drink Ive done my stint in the shed so. I had a dream I was hooked into a huge musky must have been 60+ on my own home made too he was thrashing in the water what a feeling Then I woke up realized the only musky I've seen is in a photo and all she tells me is I can't go  Don't kids have this inter cambio thing one goes stay there the other comes stay here. Arent we just big kids. Just a thought DREAM ooooooooon
