  1. I agree with Coley on Gene's work. I have seen pictures of some of the faces he has carved and they are great. I do plan on going to Gene's house and take a look at them in person. Gene, I agree with you on building friendships. The past few months have been hard, and finding someone to teach me about something I have always had a passion and desire to learn is a great feeling. I hope to come up soon and take a look at your work. You?re a great person and an awesome carver. If I could learn a 10th of what you know about carving, I will be doing well! I am just glad to have to opportunity to meet you in person. Words can?t express my gratitude. Thanks, Bill
  2. This site is great! I had the opportunity to meet Lincoya last week and the guy is awesome. I am new to the site and trying to learn all that I can. The site has been very informative and the people on it are great. Having people who are willing to help you is wonderful. This day in time, you don?t find this to often. I meet Lincoya (Gene) on this site. We have spoken a few times on the phone and I had the opportunity to meet him. He walked me though the process of carving wood baits and I must say I am addicted to it. He ruff-cut the baits and provided me with extra wood to try and carve some for myself. On top of doing this, I was amazed by one of his baits he had carved and he gave it to me. After being up all day, he was willing to teach me. We carved baits out until after 10 that night. This says a lot about the people on this site and the character of the people. I would like to thank all of you for you willingness to help other new comers (like myself) learn the art of hand crafting baits. Thanks Lincoya for your kindness and willingness to teach others. I would also like to thank everyone else on the site. You all create wonderful baits and provide great information. Thank You, Bill
  3. Wanting something different. It started off a just wondering if i could do it. I fixed a few up and went to try them and had great luck. In the swimming pool you could hear the rattle at 12 foot. It's completely different. I am playing with small body baits. I was think of getting someone to paint them, and start selling them. I bought an airbrush and played around with it. However, I had some problems. I found this site and have been reading a lot. Going to order another airbrush and better paint. I would love to start playing with wood baits. Looking on ebay trying to find some blanks. Dont know which type to get. Balsa and Cedar are all I know about. Don't know if any of the others would be good.
  4. I have already made the rattle. It is totally different from the traditional rattle. I am needing the inside of the bait to be as hollow as a plastic bait. Don't know if the wood would be strong enough after cutting it out. What would be a good wood to use? How does cedar paint and how easy is it to work with?
  5. Just wanted to get some input from everyone. Do you think the sound a crankbait makes is important. I have come up with a totally different sounding rattle and fixing to try and start selling some baits. I have been working on it for about 3 years. As of now there are only certain types of plastic baits I can get to make the sound. I would also like to know if anyone has been able to make a hollow cavity in a wooden bait. I would like to start playing some with wood baits and have been doing a lot of searching in the files. What would be a good wood to use and where do you get the blanks from? Does anyone on the forum sale lips for crankbaits? Thanks for your imput.
  6. can anyone tell me if this would be a good brush to paint crankbaits. The one I was told to get is a Badgers classic Model 150-7. I had a Badger 155 and had problems with it sticking. Thanks for you help
