  1. I weight my crankbaits before I finish shaping them so,I just epoxy in the same diameter wood dowel a little longer than needed. Then all you have to do is trim the excess with the band saw, and hit it quick with the disc sander. Then do a final hand sand Good as new.
  2. I live in Arlington Heights. I have fished Pewaukee and Oconomowoc this year. Will be fishing Okauchee Oct. 22nd a great tourney check this out.... We are happy to announce the second annual Klye "Kly" Stefanski Benefit Tournament which will be held on October 22nd on Lake Oukachee in Southern Wisconsin. Last year's efforts raised more than $7000, and this money, combined with what we raise this year, will all put back into the lake through fish stocking. For those of you unfamiliar with last year's tournament, last year, a good friend, and great musky fisherman, Kyle Stefanski, passed away suddenly in an automobile accident. He was just about to graduate from the University of Iowa, and was a day away from his 23rd birthday. He was an avid musky fisherman, great student and an extremely kind person as well. By the responses on the MuskieFirst Web site last year, it was evident that he touched many people. In honor of his name, last year we had a silent auction in addition to the tournament on Okauchee Lake in Southern Wisconsin. The money from those two events, as well as this year's tournament, are going toward the stocking of Okauchee Lake, which was one of Kyle's favorite lakes to pursue his fish. Last year's event was so successful, we decided to do it again, but this time with a twist: a 2 Bait Challenge. The way this works, is that every person participating in the tournament will be given 2 musky baits, and only 2, that they can used for that day. All baits are being donated by our very generous sponsors, which to date include Sportsman's Warehouse, Bradrock Lures, Snowcrest Lures, S&M Lures, MRG Custom Lures, and Power Probe Lures. Prizes will be awarded for places 1st through 3rd, entry fees are $50/entrant, and all lures used during the tourney will be auctioned or raffled off after the event. More details are to come, but for early entry, or to help with the event please contact me, Andrew Golden at agolden@muskiefirst.com or via phone at 847/989-9271. We hope to see you all for the tourney (October 22nd), the pre-tourney gathering the night before, and for the buffet breakfast the morning of. Kly Tourney 2005, Two Bait Challenge.....2 baits, what more do you need? I will definately be there!
  3. Hey Steve I am a FRV member also . Trying to make gliders myself. There is a guy on here goes by Richoc I believe. He is known as the etex Devil. You can PM him through your message inbox. He knows more about etex then the people who make it as far as I am concerned. He will probably tell you much the same as these guys have, but with a little twist! Maybe I'll see on the water sometime! Good Luck,
  4. I also fish big baits for mushy. What I do is this. The rope I use to launch the boat with has a "D" clip on it I use to attatch to the boat. I went to Ace hardware and bought 4 1/2 feet of cahin with about 1 inch rings. Then I cut the chain into 4,1 foot lenghts which I keep in my drybox. When I get a snag I put the 4, 1 foot chains in the "D" clip still connected to the launch rope ,and clip it to the snagged line. Lift the rod tip up and let it slide down the line til I hit the leader.Jiggle it a little, til it clears the leader and slides down to the bait. Jiggle it a little more til 1 of the chains grabs a hook, and give it a yank. If that doesn't work I go to plan b. I basicalluy clip the anchor to my "d" clip ,slide it down to the leader. Then use it as a big bait knocker.I have saved over 100$ worth of baits for 10$.
  5. I am having issues also. I made a 6 in glider out of Red Oak. Weighted it with 2 ,1/4 oz weight s the front (between pull eye and hook) also put 2 inbetween rear and middle hook. The front 2 are sitting on top of each other. The back two are side by side. All it does in the water is lift straight up then sink back down. No side to side at all. I put the pull eye even with the point on the nose.I was going to try and move the pull eye down a little see if that helped? Seems to be alot of weight was required to get it to sink. My buddy Jeremy made 1 a little different with about the same weight set up differnt body style and it glides side to side nice? Does body design have that much say in how it glides?
  6. Just got the first 5 RumbleGlides weighted ,got the screw eyes in ,and ready to paint. Anybody know how Jim Wilson gets that nice thick top coat? Want to put that style top coat on the new glides.
