  1. Ya got me there, borderbasser. I've never had that problem. The paint that does get into the cavity doesn't come all the way to the top. When I actually begin to drill, the tip of the bit is already inside the cavity - which might explain why I haven't had chipped paint. Some of these other guys might can chime in and answer this better than me - and I'm taking a stab here - but it sounds like you could be using too much powder paint and/or your curing times are off. Elken's dowel solution could be the ticket for you though since you could eliminate the drilling process altogether. RR
  2. I don't really. It will fill up partially. Once I've allowed the painted head to cool after curing, I just re-bore the weedguard hole with an 1/8" drill bit. I just recently bought a much smaller, battery operated B&D 'mini-drill' from wally world. It runs on a couple of AA's and will clean the weedguard hole out in seconds. ...sure beats having to work around the weedguard when you don't have to.
  3. Reading all the above sure makes me glad I install my weedguards AFTER I powder paint!
  4. They're workin' out great ... thanks for asking. I didn't get NEARLY enough of the 1/8 oz Socket Eyes, but now that I know how that head will work for me w/ those Matzuo hooks, I'm caught up and in the 'know'! I also need to get some of the Poison Tails in 1/4 oz. Have you gotten the next size up on the PT mold yet? I'll email you another order in the next week or so. Thanks again for everything. RR
  5. Try these folks: http://castind.com/index.html I just placed my second order with them and so far so good. They appear to make most of Stamina's heads and more that they don't carry as well. I'm with you on Stamina and their service. I'm not to the boycott stage yet, but I'm darn close. It's a shame that they have such a huge selection and can't back it with the CS to go along with it. What's up Elken? Be lookin' for another jig head order from me soon! RR
  6. Right you are ... thanks Brad. I didn't even know that board exsisted or I would have put it there in the first place. I opened it up this morning hoping for a reply and didn't see it, so I falsely jumped the gun. RR
  7. Any ideas why a post I put up yesterday morning re: trading for some jig heads was removed?
  8. Thanks greatly for the feedback. I actually dug around a little more yesterday and got some ideas - I also noticed the wire bait forum just after I bothered you crankers! As for powder paint - well, I guess I just don't fully understand it yet. It seems easier to paint around wires, hooks, and fiber weed guards than trying to heat this stuff up and roll it around in powder, getting it all over the stuff I don't want it on. But, as a rookie, maybe I can be convinced differently. So, the Paasche and compressor are probably the way to go, but how is that particular model? I see a lot of posts on Paasche air brushes, but I'm yet to see one on that particular model. Of course I haven't dug long enough either. Thanks again fellas.
  9. I need some help here gang. I've been assembling for quite some time, but now I'm wanting to do the molding and painting myself. My questions center around the airbrush. 99% of my painting will be jig, sb, and buzzbait heads. Nothing fancy. How elaborate of a gun do I really need for this? I have the opportunity to get a Paasche VLST Pro w/ compressor. Is this suitable for what I'm going to do, or is it overkill? I see the Badger 250 and 350 and they seem like all I would really need, but I don't want to spend the $$ and then regret not getting the better gun set-up. Here are some other questions I have: * does everyone pretty much use vinyl for painting lead? * will I have to thin the vinyl before spraying? * are the 250 and 350 suitable with Propel or do I HAVE to have a compressor? There's more, but it won't hit me until I start getting responses. Thanks in advance to everyone for their insight.
