  1. Thank's Mark and Bob!i will give it a try!I never used epoxies but I like the result when I look at your baits! How do you put the bait on the drying weel???Do you put the stuff before and then put it on the weel or after???I really look like a newbie now!!!!lol!!!for the epoxie things i am!!thank's for all your help guys!

  2. Dan,

I'm pretty sure any of the epoxy fumes will be toxic if you inhale enough of them.

Having said that, I've never had any problems with either D2T, Nu Lustre, or Etex. I think they all use denatured alcohol as a solvent, and, since I work in an open garage, the fumes are never an issue for me.

I'm not sure I'd be so cavalier if I had to work in an enclosed space.

If you're concerned, call or email the companies that make the epoxies, and ask them. The last thing they want is someone to get sick from their products, so they will err on the side of caution.

Unlike me, they actually know what they're talking about.

    Mark

Thank's Mark!I never used any epoxies like those so I realy dont know if it smell bad or if they are toxic.I use 5min. epoxies for my eyes and lips,do they smell like dose???Or it's not the same thing???

  3. That is funny, I have never built anything that big. The lure in front of me at this minute is 2" long, lol.

I am thinking 3/32" lexan and 18SWG soft SS wire (0.048"). Take a body with you when you go shopping for the supplies. If it looks right next to the body, then it IS right.

    Dave

Thank's Dave,In fact 3/32 lexan sound great!I think ill go with that and see.

  4. Hi Guys!I want to build a new crank but a much smaller one that what I use to make!I want it to be around 5 inch in shallow version.I would like to know what wire size and lexan thickness you guys normaly use on a crankbait that size??Thank's for any help!Dan

  5. I'm new to this too and just went through that same issues. Just liked to share that I've been experimenting with Evirotex Lite and D2T. My expereince with the e-tex was a little better than D2t. First of all, you don't have to worry about thinning it and your working time is longer. E-tex takes longer to cure but worth the wait. Couldn't tell any difference in the end results though. Good luck!!! IS IT SPRING TIME YET ???

Why spring time???Your in s.carolina!!!lol!!Come here in Quebec and will see what is winter!!!

  6. Thanks for the info Dan. I saw on the website that the smooth on floats.I am trying to make a sinking swimbait and one thing I was concerned about getting it to sink.

Yes it floats!!i use some weight to make it sink.Dan

  7. Dan,

Is the smooth-on feather lite strong enough to hold screw eyes, or do you have to use a through wire system?

Yes it is strong enough,im not saying that the other brands are not good,im trying to help a starter in mold and molding to use the best that i know.Dan

  8. Hello Guys,

I was on the Alumilite website and have some questions.I have my master made and know that I will be using the Alumilite white.I am stumped as to which of the RTV's to buy though.I am making a slip mold like I saw in one of the member submitted tutorials. They have 4 or 5 different RTV's on the site and I really have no Idea as to which one to buy.As always any help will be greatly appreciated.

hi Jimmie,I use the smooth-on moldmax to do my mold and the smooth-on feather lite to make my crankbaits,i dont know the alumilite product but I can tell you that the smooth-on products are awesome!!they work realy nice for me and a lot of others here in TU.The featerlite is a polyeurethane resin with a very low density and it's the best stuff to use for lure casting!for me.Go and take a look on the web site.cheers,Dan

  9. I have never seen a muskie in person, but I've caught a lot of barricuda, and they look a lot alike to me. Big, strong, lots of sharp teeth.

I'd never use anything less than .092 sst screw eyes, at least 1 1/2" long. Brass is too soft.

There is a pike fisherman, Jeep, who is a member here. He just posted a video of some fish he caught with his Esox swimbaits. Check out his video, and give him a PM. He'd be the perfect guy to give you some first hand advice.

Hi,Like Mark I only use some .092 s.steel screw eyes! For musky baits brass is realy to soft!Cheers.Dan
