  1. Thanks : I just ordered a 1/64oz. semi custom mold from do-it Thanks for letting me know that they have these custom molds.1/64RHNC
  2. Does anybody know who makes a mold for 1/64oz. round ball type head no colar I can buy. I belive do-it smallest is 1/32oz. Thanks
  3. A friend of mine wants me to tie him some saltwater jigs. I have never tied saltwater jigs. I have tied thousands of jigs for fresh water. My Question is what type of hook to use. I normanly use ultra points by mustad. Do I need to use stainless steel or something else. These will be 1/8 oz. and 1/4 oz. hair jigs --- 1/0 or 2/0 hooks. thanks
  4. i have fooled around the last couple of years I have fooled around the last couple of years with a new stand up blade bait. What I mean by stand up is it stands up on the bottom. Works great through the ice for walleyes and saugeyes. I only make one size 1/4oz.
  5. I don't know what you are fishing for but a hair jig with meat on it is hard to beat. Meat I mean minnow - leech or worm or some crawdad tail.GOOD LUCK
  6. If your are looking for something real soft try Marabou feathers it is made in that color too. I sometimes use a combination of feathers and hair. Marabou is real easy to tie. GOOD LUCK
  7. I use 2s and 4s on my harness. You will be alright. Won't be long now. GOOD LUCK
  8. Any body ever try to make floating jig heads. We use alot of them here in Ohio and lose alot too. Would like to try to make some .
  9. Snooterfish: I make alot of bladebaits and the easy way to paint the bait is powderpaint them. You can also paint them with airbrush or spray cans all work. Some I am making now I put a thin coat of epoxy on sprinkle on glider and then put another thin coat of epoxy on.Add some prism tape and your all set .Just depends on what you are looking for. These I make I made the mold and make my own inserts. I wanted something nobody else had. It took alot of fooling around with molds and blades but it is worth it when somebody says what did you catch them on. Or where can I get that bait.Well getting back to your question if you use paint like airbrush or spray cans I would sand the blade alittle then use a white primmer then spray your colors on then seal with epoxy.Hope this helps
  10. Just wanted to know after you dip the jig in topcoat how long will it look like chrome. Will it stay shinny for as long as air don't get to the lead or what. In the past I have tried epoxy on new poured lead and it worked some what but if topcoat works for a long time that would be an easy fix. THANKS

    Does anyone know this jig

Looks like an old Ohio bait made by PT lures They also made a spinner version of that too. It was made in the late 70's or early 80's. Might not be the same bait but real close good bait I may have 1 or 2. The spinner version had a clip on spinner on it like a beetle spin.
  12. Mac10: I make most of my jigs for live bait or twistertails on them. I like 1/16 oz. head with a 1/0 hook so the basic frame from head to the bend of hook is 1inch 3/8" after I tie hair on the jig the bait will be 1inch5/8" ..to 1inch 7/8". This set up will work with live bait or not. Another jig I make and have alot of luck with is 1/16 oz. or 1/8 oz. chenille jig Icall it because All I put on the jig is chenille. and a minnow or leech. With this jig I use mustads bait holder hook 1/0 this hook is alittle shorter than a standard 1/0 hook. I just tie the chennille from the head to the bend of the hook . HOPE this HELPS
  13. I have been making jigs for many many years and have tried most all materials but my best goto jig is a 1/16 oz. walleye jig head with a 1/0 mustad ultra point hook. Black buck tail with alittle white hair on bottom. Works well with a leech or minnow. Couldn't count all the walleyes and smallmouth we have caught on this simple jig. If I am fishing water deeper than 15ft. I tie two jigs on this is to get my bait down alittle quicker. . I'm 49years old and my dad and grandpa both used these types of jigs throught out there fishing days. and oldy but goody. HOPE this helps.
  14. Thanks mjmmusser : Been fooling around with the idea of using doll rod brass and filing on that to make them. Your idea might work better Thanks again
  15. Time to buy a new depth finder. I fish manily a shallow lake 3ft. to 18ft.lake. What my Question is about wattage I see some modles with 1500 watt top to bottom and some as high as 4000 top to bottom. More wattage more money it seems.Do I need alot of wattage on a shallow lake. I have been running a Bottomline NCC5300 and worked fine till last part of season. Also I think the more pixels a modle has the better detail the unit picks up am I right. Thinking of getting a Lowrance LMS480M if it has an external antenna or LMS520C. Any thoughts THANKS
