  1. Where do you guys get your Gamakatsu 3/0 + 4/0 flat eyes? Can you get a discount for 1000 pcs. or do you have to buy 10-100 packs? Thanks.
  2. A little off subject...but anyone know where to get keepers like these? I have seen them on many products but seem to only find the hitchhiker style. These have a different shape to them. Back to the mold question...
  3. Just from experience when pouring spinnerbaits I heat the wires and hooks in the oven so the lead flows throughout the entire mold. They don't need to be really hot but a warm hook is always better than a cold hook. This gives me a good pour almost all of the time, otherwise a cold hook and wire will cool the lead as soon as it is poured in the mold. Just a tip from my workbench...

    Poison Tail Jigs

Nice job guys, I like the round rubber and silicone combination.

    Skirts

I don't know if anyone has tried the skirts recommended in other posts from Hatfield Enterprises in Michigan, but I was wondering if the silicone was similar to his or more like the silicone of a "skirts plus" tab? His tabs are wider but aren't as soft or thin as a typical janns, stamina etc. tab. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

    Skirts

Are these skirt tabs any different than what janns, barlow or stamina sell?

Do you paint those blades? If not, where can you find them at? Thanks...OUTFSHN
  8. I live close to Janns and used to pick up my lead from them until last month when it doubled to over $3.00 a pound. Ouch!!
  9. I use all three techniques depending on the final product I want to produce. The wire snugged up tight behind certain heads produces great flair in the skirts. A technique I use more for spinnerbais but some jigs look good too. I use a copper wire from the local hobby store. Not sure of the gauge off the top of my head. The thread technique is similar to had tied flies, very percise and durable. It is very easy to put accent strands in the skirt when hand tying. A real custom looking jig. The production method is definetely the skirt collar. Using the right tool to get the skirt material into the collar you can produce hundreds in no time. Good luck with your jigs...now your hooked!!
  10. Pete, the best way I have found to make a bullet proof jig head is to add 3d eyes and weed guards after I powder paint the jig, then apply epoxy over the eyes and the powder paint. This hold the weedguard in better and keeps the eyes on. It also has an added benefit of a glossy coating, more for the fisherman than the fish though. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your jigs.
  11. I use a hook Jann's sells called a "sure grip" shinner hook in 5/0 made by Ohio Pro Lure. It has a keeper that makes those soft plastics last allot longer!! And the shape of the hook is different than an EWG that I think hooks the fish better. One other trick is to put a SMALL swivel about 18-24 inches up from the hook to keep the line twist out of the main line. I usually use white or bubblegum. This is a deadly jerkbait. Give this method a try, I think you will like it!!
  12. Jigmaster, I just started making my own jigs and found that regular superglue wicks up the weedguard and makes it way too stiff when it cures. A big no no. So I switched to the superglue gel, much thicker and doesn't wick. Picked it up at the local hardware store. They all turned out great now. As far as holding the weedguards in place, I just use a length of wood that I cut at a 45 degree angle and just lean them up against it as they setup and dry. Hope this helps, learned allot from this site and tried things myself to find out what works best for me. Gook luck.
  13. Thanks for the combinations, what might be a good choice for a bluegill, bass or perch?
  14. I am new to the tackle making scene, and just finished the process of pouring and painting all the jigs and spinnerbaits. Now it's time to make the skirts, with all of the different color skirt tabs available, I was wondering if some of you would share some of your favorite skirt color combinations? Thanks for your help!
