  1. lowes does not sell it. I only have found it at walmart and Ace hardware.
  2. I use Krylon Fusion satin or flat white paint as a primer because it is designed to adhere to plastic ( pvc ). I have had no issues with the acrylic paint sticking to it.
  3. apple barrel-ok. folk art- not as good imo. I use Royal brand deerfoot brushes. they are a stipling brush with a medium firm bristle. just Google them. as with most things, practice, practice, practice. also a good thing to use is some white poster board. walmart sells it so you don't have to drive a long way to a craft store. cut out fish shapes and use that to practice your painting on. remember you can always add paint. harder to take it off !

    mini gill1 NEW

mini bluegill swimbait. 3 3/4", 3/4 oz. slow sinking bait
  5. yeh, I haven't noticed any less reflection using d2t. it also seems to make the scale pattern stand out more.
  6. just remember to LIGHTLY buff. the tape itself is going to have some imperfections that are hard to get out. buffing too hard will leave little scratches and its never going to have a "mirror" finish but is the best solution I have found.
  7. ok, that didn't work well so i'll just try again. 2) polish the tape . light pressure not too heavy. 3) lay the polished tape on a paper towel and cover with your scale material. lay the brass rod on the mesh and use the 2x4 to roll it leaving the scale pattern imprinted on the foil, 4) apply the foil to the bait and smooth it with your finger. use a dowel to help smooth wrinkles. 5) fininh by lightly polishing and buffing again.
  8. thought I would pass along this idea. using aluminum foil tape for a faux chrome finish. I've tried a lot of chrome paints and they all pretty much sucked. this is cheap and not all that hard to do. what you will need: aluminum duct tape, some aluminum polish ( I use Mothers mag and aluminum polish), whatever scale material you want ( I have different sizes from the fabric store), a piece of 2x4, a brass or steel rod that is not going to bend easily. Kleenex tissue or cotton balls ( I like the tissue). 1) take whatever size aluminum tape you need and tape it down on a flat surface. foil side up.
  9. the secret is a smooth surface under the tape. I think if I had sanded it really smooth or clear coated it prior to using the tape it would have come out better.
  10. Mothers aluminum polish and a tissue
  11. hand polished duct tape. practice piece
  12. you basically print the image on tissue paper and then glue it to the bait. check Youtube on tissue printing

    spineyrays

I did on the crappie. the others I had already painted the scale pattern on. a note: the slightest wrinkle in the tissue will show up when you paint over it. dark color not so bad, light colors it is more easy to see.

  16. 6 inches end to end. slow sinking, 2.2 oz.
  17. yeh, paint brushes. I used to use micro fibetts but they got too expensive.
  18. ok, finished the bait and put it in the gallery ( don't want to get in trouble for posting bait pictures ) turned out ok but I think I need to tone down the scale a little.

    redfin perch

redfin perch on the way to Australia for a guy there. fast sinker, slow sinker, surface swimmer. all 8" long.
  21. get it at Walmart. remember that you don't print on the shiny side.
  22. you have to tape it to regular paper to make it feed right. check printing on tissue paper on Youtube.
  23. was having trouble finding the size of mesh for my smaller baits and it occurred to me to try the tissue printing technique for scales. googled fish scale patterns, found the size I wanted, printed on the tissue paper and glued it to the bait. turned out good. will have to see how it looks once I finish the paint job ( perch).
