You should make a video of the hot glue technique. Lure looks great.

That's better. Good luck

3Lb is a VERY nice fish. The biggest I ever saw was 1Lb from a bomb crater pit on the Wirral, UK. Before and after that day the water only produced 4oz perch.

Stunning work.
What am I doing in the gallery!

I always post my videos in the forum. There was, maybe still is a specific location for videos, I am not sure.
The general forum is exactly the place for build documentation and photos. Not everyone understands the functionality of the different pages.
Gallery - to show off pics of lures. That is all, the sole purpose. You can get the feel good of people respecting and appreciating your skills as a creator.
Forum - a place to receive and give knowledge. By documenting your process of a build you are giving knowledge. People will read and learn how it is done. Other people will see better ways to do the process, this is good too because you get to learn. Photos are very important for this process.
The forum is a place to ask questions about a process, be it construction or painting, again, photos help enormously. You discover a new process or idea, post it in the forum with pics, spread the knowledge and answer questions.
I am going to post this comment as a new thread for people to learn and discuss.

Better proportions. This will look much nicer. An old rule, 'If it looks right, it probably is'.

Bondo is just an idea, your choice or others are just as good.
If you are posting with questions or problems, you should also add to hard baits forum for a better response. If you are simply just showing your work then yes, gallery is the place.
I hope you make a video of the swimming when you get to where you want.Dave

You have done a marvelous job on this first prototype. You must be very disappointed that it did not work as expected first time. More prototyping needs to be done before you spend time carving details.
Your analysis of your problems is correct. The proportion ratio needs addressing, and I would suggest work in the body around the forward side of the hinges. The rear side is fine, simply angle the forward side to form a Vee in the same direction. This seems like an insignificant change, but believe me, it will make a difference. Have a look at this video that I made on this subject.
As for the proportion, I suggest a 4:3:3:3 ratio, not including the hinges. This would make the head a little longer.
A BIG factor to success is hinge friction. Hinges have to be totally free or binding will occur. You could try tapering both ends of the center dowels slightly, removing that face-to-face contact, this might help.
You may need more thickness at the head, to generate more powerful vortices. Thicken up from the lip to the top of the forehead.
Except for the ratio, all these ideas could be incorporated into this design prototype, using Bondo and a bit of whittling.
You are so close.

Very good job. Fooled me for sure

They look great. Bought or duplicator blanks?

I can only go on what I see. With the tow eye so close to the front of the lip, the water forces will push the bait flat, and with nothing to keel the lure, it will likely turn over.
Sorry if my observation offends.

Have you test swam this lure?
Looks like 6' max to me, if that!
Dave

So glad you got it to work. Good job

This is very impressive, I like it very much - well done.

I can't even imagine how you'd program a mill to make a mold out of aluminum. Just thinking about it gives me a headache!
That's my job, I do the CAD
Good job Mark. I've tried skulpy before and I much prefer wood.

Ha, I love these stories of doom and disaster. Makes me feel content that I am not the only one that goofs up.
What speed would you say is ideal for this process?
The material sounds like latex rubber. I think the speed has to be fast enough for it not to have a chance to run. I am thinking 60 to 120rpm. This is just an opinion.
Do you have a link to the Larry D site, I would like to have a read. I tried a Google, but nothing obvious came up.

Jacob.
Fantastic job. You are leading the way at the forefront of technology.
Probably not practical for lure making directly, but for creating masters for molding or in my case, duplicating, this technology is perfect.

Throwing a coat of D2T over a live fish is illegal and does not count
Marvelous work.

I recognise that little beauty.
Welcome to TU.

D2T?
Great job.

Man you have been very busy lately. Great work, innovative too.
Did the flat nose and tow eye position get you any swimming depth? I ask because I carved one very similar, but never finished it. My idea was to make a light floater and control depth with a couple of tow eye locations.

Nice action, especially the cedar.
Not sure if the differences can only be put down to density, as I see shape differences and the hinge difference. But it does raise the question. It would be nice to make two identical lures, with different densities.
I will have to experiment with density then. Thanks for the vid.

Great looking lure and it makes a lot of noise in the water, judjing from the pic.
I can understand the diving problem. Because the body is round, when the lip digs in, the area of body presented to the water remains almost constant.
I think the lip size/length is going to be fairly critical on this type of body shaped lure. You may have to experiment more with the lip, to find the optimum solution.
