  1. Thanks for the replys. BB I do not think you are being a 'smart ass' just good advice.
  2. I have some lead paints that give results I cannot obtain using my other paints. 1) Are there any restriction on the use of lead paints for fishing lures? 2) Do manufactures have any restrictions on using lead paints? (to date I have sold just a few dozen lures) 3) Do any states or Canada have laws regulating lead paint?
  3. I have some paints that contain lead that give more brilliant and unique colors that I cannot reproduce with other paints. !) Is there a push against lead paints for lures similar to the restrictions on lead sinkers? 2) Are there any laws restricting lure manufactures from using lead paints? 3) I heard Canada has banned lead from lures. Does that include lead paint? As always your input is highly valued!
  4. I understand what you guys are saying. However, sometimes it is nice to try to be an artist, and historian, by recreating what has been done in the past. I might try the something with lacquer or varnish. Many of the antique muskie plugs look like they painted with no clear coat. They became scratched up from teeth and hooks but the majority of the paint stayed on.
  5. Is it possible to make a durable muskie plug (ceder, balsa, other) that does not have a clearcoat? How were they done before there were epoxies and polyurethanes? I would like to make some plugs that look like they came from the past but the finish is durable.
  6. Thanks for all the advice. My bait is jointed. Usually where it starts to peel is where one section hits another section. Also, when I clearcoat the e-tex fills in the wire joints and I have the work the joint free. How can I prevent this.
  7. Isn't the Zinsser the primer? Or do I need a sealer as was also suggested?
  8. Sounds like good advice. Is there something better to use then E-tex?
  9. You are right, I'm pretty new to this business and did not seal the wood. What am I suppose to use for a sealer?
  10. Everything peels off - right down to the bare wood.
  11. I have made some swim baits out of recycled maple. The finish looks durable however after a couple of days of fishing it starts to peel off. I am using Zinnser B-I-N Shellac base with liquitex air brushed and finished with a clear coat of Envirotec. What am I doing wrong?
